Instead of throwing away those other tires for the skid steer... You should fill them with foam.. It's relatively cheep. That's what we do on all our SkyTrak forklifts on big construction sites... They love picking up nails.. so the foam work wonders.

  • @rushd45

FYI - when you are hooking up the safety chains on trailer hitches, iit's a good idea to cross them under the hitch before you hook them up. That way if for some reason the hitch disconnects from the ball while you are driving, it will fall on the crossed chains and not dig into the ground/pavement/road.

I watched another video like this where the gentleman actually mounted and/or tied (not sure which one) concrete blocks to the front of the lawn mower, and then it was able to stay on the ground; it's an idea if you haven't tried it yet - although that's a VERY heavy load. This is a useful video demonstration; thank you for posting.

hey andrew you should fill your front tires on your 1520 with foam.. then you wouldnt have to worry about them going flat on you anymore.. only issue is with the front end loader sometimes its nice to be able ti adjust the tire pressures for stability and comfort reasons as well as adjusting them up or down based on the load your lifting with the loader so you would loose all those capabilities if you filled them with foam but it is easy to do yourself just watch a few youtube videos on it. lots of people do it on their ZTR front caster tires.

The Honda HT3813 uses an inline 2 cilinder engine just like a car. It has a beefy clutch just like a car with and it is shaft drive. The axles from the wheels are pretty big. It was made from 1985 to 1989. They used proper materials for this tractor. I also have this same one and it is really powerful with counter-weights and some mud tires.

I like to use commercial heavy duty tire sealant on skidsteer tire and leave the nails in. If a nail gets pulled out then you use a mushroom plug. It has a gun that pushes the rubber mushroom into the tire and the mushroom shape stays in the tire and can't be pulled out. It is a great combo. I have never seen anyone else do this.

Other good options for tires are Multiseal (which is high speed slime, way more expensive and have to order it), or foam filled tires. Solid tires are definitely the first option. Yeah, it is expensive, but having flats in the middle of nowhere on a job is expensive too.

Foam fill the tires or there is a product called Tire Balls. They are commonly used in the cross-country ATV racing scene, but I do think that they make them for just about anything that gets used off road a lot.

Funny this should come up on my "suggested" list, BTW. I was just today moving my 4x8 trailer around my backyard with my old 70s Cub Cadet. Not quite so impressive a load, however.

The only thing that sucks about solid tires is that they aren't as good as air tires on snow. I used to work at a bobcat dealer and we had lots of air tires sent out to be foam filled. Foam filled tires work great. Ride fairly smooth

Just an FYI about hooking up a trailer - the safety chains should be crossed under the hitch so that if the hitch fails it will fall onto the crossed chains and not straight down on to the ground or asphalt, dig in and cause a major 'drag' on your vehicle.

You could always have the tractor tires foam filled to keep them from going flat. Most big truck tire places do them.

I've found you can get further towing with a lawn tractor if you back it. The rotation of the driving back wheels actually pushes the front down. As long as it's not too muddy, it's surprising what they'll do.

Get that green slime stuff and load your tires up with that. You wont have a problem with flats again. I used that in my truck tire because it kept going flat and after that didnt have any more problems. Get the gallon pump of the stuff at either autozone or Walmart

In AZ, the Mesquite tree thorns will kill Skid Steer Air Filled Tires. You can Foam fill them or go with the solid tires. It will spare you from the headache of flats and ruined rims, especially if you are doing land clearing and demolition type work. Solid tires are a much rougher ride, and don't float to well in sandy or muddy soils, you will bury yourself up to the belly of the machine rather quickly. They might also be harder on the drive motors as well. I had a John Deere 325 that I had them on and a year after I sold the machine, I heard through the grape vine that the drive motors all went. It could have been because the next owner was abusing the machine, hard to really tell. I've switched to tracked machines, no looking back. If I had to do golf course work, I would probably get a toolcat with 4 way steering and lawn tires.

I had a Kubota BX25 with a loader and a fully loaded bucket would cause the tires to go flat when turning. I took them to a tractor tire store and they filled them with a liquid, laid them flat for 2 days and it turned to solid rubber, not foam. They pumped it in to the desired pressure & the tire reacted the same after it solidified. No more flats.

Do you know what the product was called? Was it expensive? Are the tires hard as a rock and uncomfortable?

Andrew Camarata , it was 1983, I don't remember the cost or what it is called. A hole is drilled in top of the tire and liquid is pumped in until it comes out the hole and all the air is out. A screw is put in to plug the hole & the liquid is pressurized to whatever air pressure is normally used. The tire is laid flat on its side so there is no flat spot. The liquid turns to solid rubber in a day. The tire rides the same as if it was filled with air at the same pressure.

That sounds pretty idea. I've researched this is the past with no luck. There are places that foam fill tires, but its very expensive, and there are no places local. One time I drove an hour to have a tire foam filled, and they wouldn't do it because they said the rim was too rusty, it wasn't even that bad.
