    Clearly a moron. As a former firefighter, I would have told the idiot to get his truck and dumbass ideas off the scene. If no drivers wanted to touch it, I would gladly proceed to drag it out with the winch on our brush truck, while no one was anywhere near the wall. It doesn’t take a genius or even a Jenga champion to see that the car was the only thing holding that brick veneer up.

    What November said about fish tailing is one of the most dangerous things you can do, you never want to hit the brakes unless you're for sure either going to hit someone or something dangerous. Either give it gas and straighten out the trailer or let off the gas and lightly keep the wheel to keep the car forward

If you accelarate you might get out of the resonance are, but a tow rig gets more unstable the faster you drive, also at some point you have to slow down and you will be at that specific speed again. Slowing down will more likly work if done early enough, also think about what if throttling out doesnt work you will crash at a higher speed than before.

    Fun fact as an employee of U-Haul I've been taught how to load trailers properly and correctly and a quick tip when it comes to getting speed wobbles with a trailer that wasn't loaded properly or is too heavy for the vehicle as you can also depending on what's in front of you you can stomp on the gas and Floor it and it'll pull straight out of the speed wobbles

    Definitely not a good idea, especially on downhills. Just don't let it get this bad, once it starts wobbling, hit the brakes until you feel the trailer brakes engage, and that'll pull it straight. Yeah, trying to pull your trailer out of a wobble works sometimes, but more speed = more wobble as well. If it doesn't work, you're going way too fast with a wobbling trailer, and it's probably too late to brake...

    I have personally been in the same situation as the second clip @ 1:25 , I was the passenger. We eventually were turned completely around 180 degrees. We did not have trailer brakes, we loaded our trailer incorrectly by putting too much weight behind the trailer axles which amplified the leverage, thankfully our load was properly secured and we didn't hit a single thing despite being surrounded by traffic going 60-70mph. Please learn from our mistake, properly maintain your vehicles and follow the basics when hauling a trailer.

I crested a hill doing about 45mph and it pushed me up around 50mph and that's when things got exciting. I took both sides of the road but I got it back under control and slowed back down. I took fewer logs on the next trip.

    The second video (mega sway) is caused by the trailer trying to go faster than the truck. That’s the number one thing that causes trailer sway, especially downhill. The best way to correct it off the gas, use trailer brakes (preferably only the trailer brakes if you can apply just then gently) and the trailer only will slow, which then will cause the truck to straighten out. The other option that works is actually to accelerate the tow vehicle so it is pulling the trailer again. But this is not recommended as you fix the problem (sway) but not the cause (trailer going faster than tow vehicle)

  • @genericjosh96

    Yea had this happen ( not as bad tho) with a work trailer on a downhill dirt road. Lightly applied the trailer brakes and it straightened right out. Had it start to happen when weight shifted in a camping trailer as well, this didn’t have brakes I just stepped on the gas then slowly slowed it down and moved somethings around in the trailer

    I remember my undergrad professor shared his own experience of a wobbly rear end because he put a lot of big rocks in his trunk when he was teaching this kind of system. He said that you shouldn't correct that and just let it die down or you can easily get into a big crash.

  • @CRneu

    @CRneu

    10 ай бұрын

    you should accelerate out of speed wobbles. Wobbles happen because the trailer is "pushing" ahead of you. Basically the weight is pushing against the hitch which causes it to wobble. The trailer is going faster than the vehicle pulling it. By accelerating you pull the hitch forward and it corrects the weight balance. Then you should decelerate very, very slowly. Then pull over and fix the weight distribution on the trailer.

    In September of 2019 when I was driving down I-5 to Oregon from Washington State I saw something crazy happen with a trailer being towed by a pickup truck. While I was driving a truck towing a trailer popped off of the hitch and the chains were still on but the trailer was going from side to side very violently. You could also see sparks flying from the chains hitting the ground. It was really crazy and something I won't soon forget about.

  • @arcanewyrm6295

    Still far better than the trailer getting free at highway speed and deciding it is no longer going to follow the tow vehicle. Scary to witness, WAY scarier when it happens to a trailer YOU are towing - but those chains are there for *_exactly_* that kind of situation. 95 times out of 100, a gentle slowdown by coasting it out and pulling over will let the driver reattach the trailer properly and continue on. As long as those safety chains are properly used, that is. But for those idiots who DON'T use safety chains when trailering, they're just BEGGING for a disaster. I would much rather have a wagging trailer make me shit my pants than have it come loose and go on to hurt or kill someone because it got away from me.

    I just have one tiny story from1961 when I was 6. My dad was towing a trailer made from a Studebaker truck bed assembly with his open bodied Willy's Jeep. While I was gazing at the trailer it came unhooked. I yelled at my dad what happened, but by then the trailer ran off the road, the hitch tongue dug into the bank, and the whole thing went into the air and landed upside down. Of course, like a true man of his generation, with much swearing he flipped it back on its wheels by himself, refilled the bed, and darkly warned me and my brother to tell no one.

    I sometimes drive a box truck at my job, and it has a mirror-imaged sticker on the box part that you can see on the driver side mirror. It's REALLY helpful, because I've cruised under some real sketchy things that were like "clearance 11ft 10 inches" (truck height is 11ft 7 inches). Truck cab height is also in-line with a semi truck cab, so that's fun to drive around all day and then get in my car afterwards...Now I know why all our semi drivers have trucks.
