The textured plastic does say “cheap mirror” but I agree that the smaller profile looks much more sleek. Still a big improvement overall.

One thing I NEVER saw on any car show...someone pulling the door card off a late model car or truck to do something. Good tutorial and good work with the proper tools to not leave scratches or marks. I think I own the exact same red plastic pry tool set.

I bought a 2022 and the only thing I don't like is those friggen mirrors! They create a massive blind spot at intersections for cross traffic. Thanks for sharing this! Definitely swapping mine over to these

I must say that normally, I really LOVE towing mirrors!😘lol Because I use my truck on the farm a lot and also I do a lot of towing of things such as logs. Pulling a trailer load of logs behind you, and needing to be able to maneuver into small/tight spaces backing up (especially when it's dark) they're great! So, they are a life saver for me usually. However, I agree with you completely in your particular case. And I definitely think that you improved the look of your already incredibly nice truck, even if you may be sacrificing some beneficial things that towing mirrors give you. They're pretty amazing when you need them, but pretty useless and gawky if you don't.

Excellent and informative video, as always! I think the main gripe about the mirrors is that most people would like to relocate them further up about 5 inches. Doesn't seem likely though.

Didn’t think I would be a fan but they do look a lot better then the oversized tow mirrors

Did the same thing with my ram couldn't stand the tow mirrors it came with, swapped em with the mirrors from 1/2 ton and completely changed the look, and yes that truck always had a trailer behind it.

Looks way better. Sand them down smooth and color match them till you find a Denali 1/2 ton set. Again looks great and keep making these videos and looking forward to see what come out next on the 8.1 build.

I'm really diggin the new mirrors! the smaller profile really does add that sporty vibe you talked about. Gotta say though, I got nervous watching you take those door panels off. I am always worried I'll break something whenever I do that on a newer vehicle for the first time lol so many little clips

Hey man, just found your channel, good content, but just wanted to leave a comment here I haven't seen mentioned yet. I'm not sure exactly what option packages your AT4 has, but mine has the side cameras on the bottom of those tow mirrors, as well as puddle lights that light up the ground, lights that will light up behind the truck, as well as lights that will shine out to the side. While I could possibly give up some lighting, those side cameras are part of the "HD Surround Vision" overhead panorama view, as well as being able to provide that amazing view down the side of the truck forward, or backwards, when you turn a corner towing a trailer. I find those camera views a game changer for these trucks, making them amazingly easier to handle in tight spaces, one of the main reasons I justified upgrading, so there's no way I'd be willing to give that up, for a little bit sleeker mirror. Now if the higher-end sport mirrors also have the cameras, maaaaybe, but man, just not worth it to me. At any rate, cool mod, not something I'd personally do, but if nothing else, thanks for showing how to take off the door panel, much appreciated, and keep up the good work!

my AT4 didn't have that "technology" package or whatever gave it the extra cameras in the mirrors, or the puddle lights, so by doing this mirror swap I didn't give up any of that. All I have are the rear facing cameras, on the 3rd brake light, and 2 on the tail gate. if I did have those camera options however, I would not be willing to give em up lol...

I just bought a 2020 AT4 and I'm wanting to switch mine to the tow mirror that you took off. To each his own. I'm really liking the AT4 though.

Wow I can't believe you just did that! I'm doing just the opposite. LOL I need tow mirrors for my travel trailer. Stock on my 2022 Silverado are way too small and can't see the sides of the trailer. Thanks for the video. Btw, good looking truck!

You’re right about swapping mirrors. I bought one of the first set of aftermarket tow mirrors for my 2016 Z71 (before boost auto did theirs) and it was a PITA getting everything lined up back right. Much easier on a GMT400/GMT800 which I’ve done numerous times now. I’ll never swap them on a newer one again lol

Yes. I don't know who decided that tow mirrors were the new status symbol for truck owners. I remember when I was in my teens and 20s the small sport mirrors were what everyone wanted. It made the trucks look more sporty and aerodynamic. By swapping to these smaller mirrors the fuel mileage should go up a few. lol

that was the "night shade" VHT spray coating. it looks nice at first, but has worn down quite a bit after 2 years

We haven't had cable in a few years (went all internet) so KZread is my main tv sourec. We have hulu, netflicks, and prime but I look for real content rhat i can learn from. I enjoy the old shows from spike and powernation. Ive been a fan of trucks, truck tech, horse power, 4x4 and others i can remember, all the way back to Shade Tree Mechanics. I really hope you continue and maybe get some special guests on from those old show. Maybe a where are they now series.

On my 2021 2500HD I have the same mirrors that you removed. On my truck they shake a vibrate more than any mirror I’ve had on any truck ever. I’m guessing it’s due to the mounting location on the door panel combined w/ the unbalanced weight of the mirror. My 2015 3500HD has a major lift and rides terrible, but the mirrors are solid. I might have to strengthen the mounting location on the 2021 to remedy this. Any thoughts?

I don’t know if maybe you have done it yet but or if you are still interested but you can get the chrome upper caps for those mirrors. And it will look good with the chrome.

I think those mirrors should be an option I prefer the older gm tow mirrors I think they should still have em they would look a lot better but the little mirrors look way better and the truck is looking slick my guy keep up the excellent content

Two questions: what is him number of these small mirrors because I also hate the big tow mirrors and two will this fit a 2022 Sierra 2500hd

They look small on such a big truck. I ordered the trailer mirrors on my 1500 trail boss Small lift larger tires I felt the trailer mirrors fit the look but I also like the functionality when towing.

I've always been a fan of the tow mirrors on from the '06-18 styles until the '19/20-up came out. It looks like someone shut their arm in a door. As bad as I hate the broken arm style tow mirrors, can't say I'm a fan of the smaller mirrors on that huge truck, doesn't look right to me. I wish there was a way to put the '15+ style in the corner of the glass like the older trucks, without doing bodywork or putting a plug on the door. That is a sweet truck like, I like what you've done with it so far

I work at a Chevy dealer, back in February the GM sales rep called the general manager and asked if we would be willing to take 2 vehicles over our allotment, he said sure. Then at the end of April, 2 weirdly equipped Silverado Custom trucks showed up. He called the rep inquiring about them, and come to find out some newly appointed GM official had spec’d out about 1500 trucks all identical except for color. They all had trifold bed covers, spray in bed liners with a bed mat, chrome side steps, tow mirrors, 3.73 gears with heavy duty rear axles, dual exhaust, upgraded rear seats with storage and some other options and 4wd with a single speed transfer case. When I first saw these 2 trucks, I thought hmmmm, how odd. I then glanced at the window sticker and said nobody will buy these. They had about $10k in options. A few weeks later I heard a salesman say they had more rebates on them. I inquired how much? I got about 13k off sticker. What’s odd is the build date is 12/23/19, the vin says it’s a 2019, but RPO codes say it has 2020 engineering.

Do you still have the tow mirrors?? I can switch you for my side mirrors. I have a 2021 GMC 1500 AT4 and it comes with all the fancy lighting and blind spot detection.

Those speed nuts that the door pull screw thread into can be made to hold on there own. Just push the smaller horseshoe shaped part further in and it'll hold on it's own

Ive noticed my local dealer has some 2021 1500 3.0L diesels on the lot, with the giant 3500 mirrors. They look even more ridiculous with the 1500s lower stance and hood line.

Just watched your video. I know it's old but hopefully I can get a response. I will be downgrading on my '21 Trail Boss from tow mirrors to regular for the same reasons. Now that some time has passed, did you ever receive any error codes? I know a guy who upgraded to tow mirrors and the dealer had to do some reprogramming and also new harnesses. I'm hoping I can do mine exactly like your video and just leave the one harness unplugged!

with the exact setup I used, I've never got any error codes of any kinds. power adjust works great, and the temp sensor in the pass side mirror works perfect.

I'll buy your old mirrors. I have the half ton and wanting to upgrade to the tow mirrors for those times I tow the travel trailer.

I was thinking in my head that they were going to look to small but it actually fit the look

I didnt make a video, but I just sprayed em with VHT NiteShade tint spray. Masked em off, slight scuff, and like 3-4 coats I think

How much you want for the tow mirrors if you still have them ?

Hmmmm, I have been looking for a cheap junkyard power window option for my square body truck. Closest I have found is mid 90 Dodge Ram full size van. This might be a better option.

Do the new mirror heads auto dimming?

Did this vehicle arrive from the factory with the tow mirrors? I just purchased a 21 Sierra 1500 Elevation, and the original owner ordered the vehicle with tow mirrors (the exact same as what you had). I don’t like the look of them, don’t like using them, and want to change to a standard mirror (similar to what you have). Multiple GM dealerships in my area have told me it can’t be done because the wiring harnesses are not the same, which they say will cause the engine to go into low power mode. They said the key factor here is that the vehicle was originally manufactured with tow mirrors. I’m curious if you received similar warnings from your local dealer, or did you just go ahead and do it. Your video gives me hope that it may actually work, but wanted to double check to make sure that your AT4 came from the factory with the tow mirrors. Thanks!

I am not sure on the part number, but they are from a 2020 Chevy 2500HD W/T trim level

personally i love the look of the tow mirrors instead gives it a tougher look when you tail gating somebody 🤣 if you dont mind i would love to buy your towing mirrors off you ! 🤪

GM put the mirror back on the door where it belongs! I agree on the massive blind spot from towing mirrors.

you'd have a massive hole in the door you'd have to weld shut and paint...

The silver clip you push the center of where the bolt go thru and it will stay.

Those mirrors do look better, however i don't think i would be willing to give up the extra features that the original mirrors offered.

I really like the look. The mirrors now disappear and don't look gigantic. With the rims and now mirrors it's really coming together. Subtle changes. #It's not the mirror, its the talent behind the wheel. Haha.

If you don't tow wide trailers I do like it. However. I think the tow mirrors from a utility perspective even empty would outweigh doing that swap for me personally. Its too bad they didn't make a slimmer tow mirror for the 2020, negating your need to do this at all.

Really wish they didn’t mount these mirrors in the door. Like the old way in the corner of the window frame so much better. Is there a rubber gasket on these mirrors to keep water out of the door I assume?

No, its never thrown a code for anything, especially mirror related. However, the truck didnt have the mirror cameras, so it might have something to do with the options your truck and the donor mirrors have

@@LawrenceTolman thanks for your response. Just threw an air sensor malfunction code P0073. Read it with the scan tool and it’s gone. I agree with you 100%, truck looks way better now and it was an easy swap.

I had the same bolt problem happen on my passenger door on my 07 Silverado. I could not figure out why I could only get one bolt back in. Took the panel off and still was stumped until I looked at a photo I took of my door with the panel off and a light bulb went on. But I solved the problem by going with just one bolt. I took the door panel off to install Boom Mat. Now my all my doors and floor are covered in Boom Mat. I'm not brave enough to pull out the headliner.

I don’t hate the look, however a higher-trim mirror that’s painted and has lights would look best. I’m assuming they don’t have heat on the base mirrors? You’ll probably want that in winter.

I Do agree, a 1500 AT4 mirror would certainly look better, but as far as the heat (I've only had it in a snow storm once with ice on the mirrors) they did defrost the ice off em rather quickly, which I wasnt expecting.

anybody know what the lights in the front of the tow mirror is called ?

I feel like that looks so awkward. That was one difference when I test drove the 1500. It felt like a car. I’m not buying a car I’m buying a truck.

Looks sleeker with the small ones but I'll have to agree with your wife, diesel plus trailer needs tow mirrors. Plus the cheaper mirrors look well cheap.

They still have two mirrors each side. And there's a tow mirror that slides over that if he needed the extended mirror.
