Sadly I think as the playerbase gets older, there will be fewer and fewer stick players.

It's only due to these tournament players having so much experience, often over a decade, playing their chosen game with stick. It's the players not the device. Though I do agree it's cool to see still, it's something that will dwindle with time.

@@flyingfrogofdeath9616leffen wasn't a stick player. He was a pad player all his life. We also don't know the background of other players. I have met people who legit agree that pad is the worst controller for them because it tires them easily.

@@hanzohattori9576 I'm talking about for the vast majority. Practically every stick player that competes at the highest level has played on stick for years. Regarding the people you are refering the operative is "for them". Of course if you aren't used to playing on pad, then they aren't going to do well with pad... Incredible insight. On the other hand looks at Joka the Tekken player who beat the best players in the world, this past weekend using pad. Chikurin won EVO Japan with a pad a couple weeks further back. The point I am making is that those who compete at the highest level who are using stick are only using stick because that is what they are accustomed to. It's the weakest controller mechanically due to the it's fundamental design and the need for a physical lever to be manipulated to travel. Again, it's the player and their experience with the controller that counts more than anything. The more players that join the FGC, they will more likely be pad players, at least to start and the new age enthusiasts will gravitate towards the more optimal controller of the leverless style controllers, which is the same niche that stick used to fill before pad took over due to home console popularity overtaking arcades. Before that of course, stick was the preferred device due to the arcade scene, for a while, being the only and most accessible way for players to play and compete in fighting games. Stick has remained popular due to poorer pad design during the first few iterations of home consoles but the PS4 pad was the advent of a truly excellent pad for fighting games. We are still in the fallout of stick being the enthusiast device but the past few years, the leverless has become that. In a few more years, when most leverless competitors have 5 years + competing with their device, we will see a lot more. I imagine stick will be the least popular controller of those three styles in 5 years. That's the way things are trending and have been for a while now.
Instant like the moment you upload any video 👍 Keep it coming.

I understand that in the tournaments one opts for the best possible option to increase the possibilities of winning. But as a regular player, I will always play with what I enjoy the most, and in my case, it is by far an Arcade Stick. I have a leverless, a gamepad and a Hori Alpha, and I have tried everything in SF6. By far what I have the most fun with is the arcade stick, but I guess that depends on each person.

There are a few reasons that the Obsidian 1 is so pervasive and they all revolve around the fact that it has been on the market for so long and has been in continuous production even after a new console generation began. Hori RAP.N Hayabusa is the true successor to the original RAP, RAP.3 and RAP.EX in my opinion and Qanba Obsidian = 8th gen/PS4's MadCatz Tournament Edition status. The Obsidian kinda follows the same design structure as the TE stick like simple design, high quality, customizable at good price (it was always on sale), I've had 2 Obsidians in the past until my friends needed a fightstick for PS5 (sold one and gave one to my best buddy).

Quick note about tournament legality: While EVO currently lets you use anything as long as you can connect to a PS5, Nintendo tournament rules were recently updated to ban all controllers that aren't licensed by Nintendo, even if they work. That means your only legal stick options for the Switch are the PowerA Fusion or the Hori Rap N, and there is no approved way to play leverless. Keep this in mind if you enter a Smash Bros tournament or a (if they still do this) Pokken Tournament

If you started with a stick and used it for years, then you will always be better at it. Same with leverless and controllers. I learned with a stick, but shifted to leverless due to nerve issues and wrist pain. The biggest advantage of sticks is the circular movements which leverless doesn't always capture correctly because the movement is linear on sticks, and not simultaneous. The only real advantage of leverless are dashes and footsies. But, motions will always be better with sticks.

Nice video. Lotta Qanba! I assume the upper-end Qanbas have good quality? I'm very hesitant about Qanba - my ex had a Qanba Crystal and when it was not having endless issues connecting to the PC, it was falling apart and the stick was making horrible squeaking noises against the collar and becoming loose and inprecise. The buttons lit up, but everything else about that stick was awful. My cheap Mayflash (with a Seimitsu stick) was more reliable than that Crystal. 🤣

F500s are a great base for upgrading. I think it's more about the skill than the equipment on the whole, the equipment is more the tip of the iceberg, but a larger factor the higher the skill levels. Also, we don't always know what spring strengths, gates, shafts or even switches inside buttons people use, but most likely the ones that work best for them.

I think the Mayflash and 8bitdo sticks are a great base and easily modible. They're still really great stock though, and way more affordable. I think part of the reason you see so many sticks Qanba is partly because they sponsor events and players. Not that theyre necessarily bad, i just wouldnt shell out the price brand new for some like an obsidian 2 (£300+ where i live). Im thinking on buying another 8bitdo as my old mad catz pro stick (circa late 2000s) is showing age. I think of the stuff with more premium parts sort of like buying a mechanical keyboard, not super necessary but a bit better feedback. Buying a Qanba over a Mayflash or 8bitdo wont magically make you a better player.

You have to pretty much eat, sleep, and repeat arcade stick usage and just use a variety of games using stick if possible. Beat 'em-ups and side-scrollers help, too. Don't just stick to fighting games, but try to throw variety in there. I even found a way to play games like Sengoku Basara using stick (with some adjustments) and even some RPGs. The more you use it in various situations, the more acclimated you will become to using it.

@@hectorgarcia5814 -- I have too, since I first played Street Fighter 2 Turbo on SNES when it had been out for a few years as a kid. It is going to be a slog because you're not used to it. It's like trying to go work out for the first time: you have no idea where to start, what exercises to do, nothing. And that is normally where people who are first starting to try to work out fail...because they don't have a plan. Your focus, primarily -- right now, is to build MUSCLE MEMORY. You're in the gym, trying to find out how the stick works, how to press buttons, timing, combos, navigating the device, questioning "WHY THE HELL AM I EVEN DOING THIS?!" It's not going to come together right away. You won't see results right away. It's not going to happen, even within a few months. That's like people going to the gym thinking they're going to get shredded in a month. That ain't happening. You have to keep it up EVERY DAY. And man, go through the gauntlet of games, I don't care if it IS playing Street Fighter II, Third Strike, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Darkstalkers, Cyberbots, Star Gladiator...any fighter or non-fighter that you can get your hands on and FORCE yourself to use stick and nothing else. And I guarantee, through hard work and prep and repetition...it will click one day and you'll be somewhat acclimated to it. But you played with pad to so long that you built that muscle memory. Just time to build it for another device if you think it is worth it.

And I stuck with using a PlayStation emulator and going back playing my childhood favorites: Street Fighter Alpha 2 & 3, Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha, Star Gladiator, games like that, with the occasional going back to Streets of Rage games and other classic beat-'em ups and platformers, even a few OpenBOR ones like Ultimate Double Dragon. Heck, I even played SONIC 2 using stick! So I've been around the block with my usage despite my initial frustration and apprehension using my stick. I even have a playthrough of The Takeover on my channel. THAT playthrough was all played with stick. So you just gotta get it in if you feel it is worth it. Just put in the time, and man, you'll get it.
With HxH and 2KXO having no motions, I'm sticking with leverless for now. Already used to it

that is a good point, for something coming from smash and using a gamepad for 15 + yrs, thats says something about stick
Keyboard is not allowed coz it's too powerful
After playing on keyboard, I want a leverless controller with extra buttons. 2 on top of light punch mid punch and 1 under light kick.

if you started with kb, you will prob love leverless
Seems like the whole "cheatbox is phasing out other options" argument is just a myth

Can you explain more, i would love to hear your input ❤️🙏 for the obs 1
That's because scrubs patronize leverless and complains about the difficulty of an arcade stick. Their character alone to complain and cry about things is the reason they never made it LOL! Leverless is a joke and should have not existed!
