I ,and a load of friends and family celebrated my 60th birthday in 2008. We filled your dining cars and we trundled backwards and forwards 4 times back to Alton and enjoyed superb catering. Actually there was a runaway much more recently, in the early 80s I think, one weekday afternoon in the summer but before weekday running became the norm, empty[parked] stock rolled from Ropley to the headshunt at Alresford.. Not many saw it but the shock waves were visible long after! I think 30499 was in the headshunt? I'm sure the older hands will remember?

As a member well done on these new videos, more publicity the line gets and information given out the better

My son and I walke the length of this line and it came as a shocj to find rolling stocjat Roopley, it had been over grown and derelict all the way ubtil then. We amnaged to do the rest before the Motorway was built and it was so distessing to see the whole track bed disappearing. My heARTY CONTRATULATIONS TO ALL THOSE SOULS WHO REBUILT IT. It is our railway as we feel, and it would not be without all your efforts. Take a bow.

Great video I am really missing the railways!

If you observe the left track from timestamp 7:04 to 7:06 you will spot what appears to be a common pheasant male running away from the incoming train and off to the left. Do you have a lot of pheasants over there?

Brilliant especially the "END OF LINE " sequence, which us mere mortals would never see!

That railway looks nice but I always go to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway cause I live in North Yorkshire

Welcome to the channel! When the line was closed by BR, the original plan was to purchase the full length from Alton to Winchester Junction with the idea of potentially running a commuter service. However the early preservationists couldn't quite raise enough funds. So they instead decided to buy the trackbed from Alton to Alresford including the track from Alresford to Ropley which started the Watercress Line as we know it today!

We actually have four! 35005 'Canadian Pacific' is under overhaul (boiler at Ropley, the rest of it at Eastleigh), 34105 'Swanage' (Under overhaul at Ropley), 34007 'Wadebridge' (in storage at Ropley) and 34058 'Sir Frederick Pile' (the one seen at the end of the video).

@@alexanderstuff5100 its being cared for by the same group who own 80150 and currently both locomotives are next to each other at the end of those sidings so its easier to work on them and also shed space ropley shed isnt that big and they also have to care for the operational locomotives. Currently in the ropley shed are 35005 canadian pacifics tender,75079,75079s tender, 08377 and i think thats it hope this awnsers your question
