Tour Pros Are All Using These OLD Cheat Sticks! So should YOU!

This explains a lot, I think we have all been going completely wrong when it comes to buying golf clubs. Every year all golfers no matter if they are high handicap, mid handicap, low handicap, they all look for the latest brand new irons on the market. We all look for the best irons on the market, the most forgiving irons, forgiving irons and so on. But it seems like the pros are using these old cheat sticks... so should you! I LOVED doing this test and I know for a fact you are going to enjoy watching this. This explains a LOT!

“Old” set of “cheap” irons? Um, aren’t the JPX 923 still the current models? Maybe second hand they’re a bit cheaper, but it’s not like you’re playing 1970s blades.

I played my ping eye 2 irons yesterday. 40 year + technology and still good enough to use, I also rocked my ping g10 driver. All those clubs cost less than £100

Yeah, I finally upgraded my 35 year old irons that had very little grooves left. I like working on stuff and I knew what I wanted. Something forged, bendable, so adjustments are easier. Got on ebay and found a set of older Mizuno MP54 iron heads only, 4-PW. When I received them I was blown away as they looked brand new. Paired them up with Recoil shafts and have been a happy camper ever since. I think pretty much any clubs in the latter modern age will play just fine. These Mizuno irons will take me into the afterlife. Also got new woods. Ebay for the win again. Found 5-3-driver Callaway Epic Flash, again older model but got them from the Callaway used store. These also looked like they were never hit and came in shrink plastic. Very nice clubs.

I bought a set of 2008 Mizuno MP67s from a used shop in japan. Came with new grips, amazing condition, grooves in good shape for only a couple hundred bucks. They dont go far and they're not the most forgiving but its helping me hit the center more to avoid hand pain.

Still rocking the 9 piece Strata starter bag (6-PW, 1,3w,5h, putt) from 2018. Picked up Ram wedges(52,56,60) in 2019. Total bargains. We are learning together, an incredible enjoyable journey so far-and we still got unfinished business.

I recently ‘retired’ my Wilson Deep Red Fat Shafts that I have had since 2002, and that was only because the 8 iron head came loose at the driving range!! I’m now playing a set of Cobra LTDx irons which are obviously both far more advanced technically and forgiving. Hopefully, I’ll be very happy with the Cobras for many years to come, as I can’t imagine golf club technology changing that much for me to justify changing clubs every few years.

I use cast clubs for the durability! If it’s good enough for Vokey wedges, it’s more than good enough for my game! Plus I buy a model that is easier to hit than I could play.

Just got fitted for new irons 2 months ago. Came down to the forged 923 and the p790. I did go with the 790s, but those 923 forged were awesome clubs. If I wasn’t so used to having TaylorMade over the last 20 years, I probably would have went with those.

Irons Speed Blades, a gift. Putter Chipper free table, though I regripped them. A Driver 910 D2, re-shafted and not adjustable. 3 wood 917 T, and a 3 Hybrid also 910 D2. an RT 2 5 Hybrid. Ancient stuff really. And a 52 Vokey 7 and 56 Cleveland cb, a gift. I am a really cheap guy as golf is so expensive, relatively speaking. So, I suppose I am an exception though I do need a new driver, but I don't even think about replacing my clubs. I do enjoy your shows. Thanks. I'm an 11 if that matters, though people say I'm a legend, and a sandbagger, since I win so much money. I have a great short game.

You are absolutely right. I hate getting new clubs because they are always different. Anytime you change. Clubs you will get worse and then end up the same. The clubs will never make you a better golfer. Practice is the only thing that will make you better but no one wants to practice. I love to practice more than I play because that's what it takes to get better. When I buy a new set of irons I will try to send them my current 5 iron and tell them to duplicate it. I currently still play my 712 MB's from Titleist. When I got those irons from Titleist I sent them my current 5 iron and talked to Team Titleist. I told the guy that I needed the lofts, lies, swingweight, and length to be exactly to my spec. The Team Titleist rep said he would have my clubs sent to him to check them before he shipped them to me. He contacted me and said that two of the irons were off a little bit and sent them back to be rebuilt. Then, when I received them they were perfect and an exact match to my previous set. and I'm not a pro. That's why I play Titleist. Also Titleist can get you any driver shaft that still exists no matter how old. The manufactures still have or make a lot of old shafts, so if it exists, they can get it even if it's not listed as a custom option on their site.

It is the manufacturers who advertise this/these clubs will improve your golf and umpteen golfers fall into this trap always wanting to get either extra distance or consistency. When in effect practice or lessons would be more in keeping. The number of people who change drivers or irons when in effect it is their swing that is holding them back. I have had the same Srixon irons for 6 years now and wouldn’t change them for the world.

Good marketing will have you buying a set every year so you can play better. I play my 2006 King Cobra 3100 I/H. In 2013 I bought Taylormade RocketBladez. After one season of the RocketBladez I sold them. Dispersion was horrible. 2024 I still play my King Cobras.

The numbers may change but the clubs ? If you learn to play a set of irons well or even driver/ woods then why would you get a new set that are different and go through the whole process again . Like did tiger ever really change his irons or did they make a set the same but different looking ? I believe his irons never changed from his junior years .
