Tour of our beautiful untouched village in Tuscany Italy.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A tour of the village where we bought our Italian villa to renovate. The village is almost untouched and filled with hidden passageways and paths, and full of surprises. This was filmed on the 27th of June 2020.

Spent 1980-86 in Gaeta Italy (age 10-16) travelled all over the place while there, Tuscany is beautiful. The treasure hunter in me is going crazy looking at all those old ruins, I remember my dad diggin Roman coins by the handfuls when we lived there.

Let me add that in medieval villages (I live in one too) the slopes on the passageways were built with stones buried sideways that functioned as steps. Hard to describe. The lumpy bumpy way the stones were laid was to ensure good foot grabbing for people and to make the passageways easier for animals to manage, to get them to and from the cantinas (under the volte/archways). It is clear that over the years, Guinadi residents have paved over those ancient steps to make the sloping walkaways which are MUCH easier to traverse.

Welcome to Guinadi ! My family has been here since, I don't know but a lot of time ! We have two houses and one was in the same state as yours (with the " chestnut room ") with no first floor, my parents had it renovated and know it's very beautiful. We live under the vault (19:05) at the end of it. We'll be here by the very end of July (like all the others), maybe we'll meet ! Oh and if you don't know what to do about the damigiane (the wine containers) we would like to take some ! So happy to see people like you renovating and taking care of those old houses. :)

How cool is that! It's a small world. I live in Lunigiana as well, in a borgo about 15 minutes drive from Pontremoli. I have lived here full-time for 10 years now. I almost bought his house btw, but instead I chose a smaller borgo higher up in the hills. I still had all the renovation work to do. I think this is why I am so thrilled he has a YT channel haha. I was born in London but my parents emigrated to Canada when I was a small child, a few years after WWII. Maybe the house this KZreadr is renovating (he won't provide his name haha) was at one time part of your family property. The extensive cantinas indicate a lucrative agricultural income for that previous home owner, not to mention the prestigious loggia with columns, high ceilings, end-of-via position, and other architectural artifacts. Thank you for a wonderful tour of the village! Walking around the villages near my house is one of my favorite hobbies! I'm waiting on someone down in Rome to process my petition for a reciprocal amateur radio license. Once that arrives I will be able to enjoy another hobby. Until then I can't get enough of wandering around and looking at homes that were built in the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries! The locals are not overly impressed with the age, but it is very impressive to me. It's great that Italy has public services (water, sewer, gas, electric) in localities with so few residents. I saw a couple of post boxes on people's homes, and wondered about home mail service. Where I live I have only seen 1 letter carrier come to the street 1 time. The post office is only open for two or three hours each day. I'm always at work, so I've never seen it open. I won't go on and on. Again, thank you for the tour. It's great to see your village with sunshine. Have a wonderful day. David

So just after 911 I sold up and moved to the UK for 7yrs.My mother fell ill and had to move back to the states to care for her. That was a lovely tour, especially for those who have never been to Italy before, nor seen an ancient stone village in Comune di Pontremoli. The hillside villages of Lunigiana are special indeed. But let me say that Guinadi is not a small village by a long shot. It's a good size village and is well known for the community spirit, and activity there. It has a couple of restaurants, a community center, a bar and it used to have a small post office. But a few years ago, a lot of our village post offices were closed. At any rate, this is a thriving medieval village and a wonderful place to own a home. Well done! :-)

Grondola is a lovely village. Because it's built on a ridge, it is always so much cooler there in the summer that in places below. I live oly about 450 m. altitude in the hills of Comune di Tresana. But in the summer, my borgo is always about 5 to 10 degrees Celsius cooler than in the Magra river valley below. And in the winter, it's more temperate here. Our borgo faces a valley where much food and fruit is grown. It's a microclimate up here and very fertile. I think it would be much colder in Grondola in the winter.

what a lovely village. I can imagine in the past kids running around and men and women chatting in the street. loved the crazy scary little stairs every now and again. a thought about the back cellar if it's big enough you could use it as a garage. even if you don't have a car you could put bikes in it.

Hi Lea, the kids run about all day, as do the rest of the villagers, always with a smile and time for a quick chat. The back cellar opening, under the arch would be perfect for a little car, which I think we will eventually get, as my VW bus is huge! Thanks for the suggestion!

It looked like cars would not fit but I saw that they do, so it's okay. You won't drive every day anyway. 😄

Just loved this video walking tour of your lovely village! It's unimaginable by Southern California people who only see new (*comparing to Italy's structures) so every part of your village was facinating. I spent lots of time yesterday reading the comments from people and they asked all my questions! Haha.. So now I need to read your replies..thank you for answering them! I will be watching and cheering you on during this adventure even if I don't comment on every video. I will be sharing this particular video too..it is charming. Hope it helps to grow your subscribers! Take care and grazie for everything..ciao!

Hi Carolyn, Thank you so much for watching, I have a feeling that there will be a part 2, as I missed so much of the village. It's taken a couple of days to answer all the comments and questions, while I am out here, there I am so busy with building, the kids and aperitivo! Southern California has its charm, as I'm sure you know, but I guess there's not so many time capsules out there!

So beautiful. I do hope this ancient village will be preserved and never altered too much. It goes to show that the built environment can be sympathetic to the surrounding areas. While watching I felt an appreciation for the organic nature of the stone buildings and tunnels, that are very sympathetically a part of the natural landscape. It is indeed idyllic.
