I had to land my B52 in the UK coming from the States. The Tower asked if I had a pallet of Coors and Wonder Bread on board before I could land. My God, the memories. I'm not an army guy but in 2008-2011, my dad was stationed there, so as a kid at the time I went to a bunch of places around the base including this one. I also remember when there was a playground where that Gamestop was.

i was in the AF in the early 90's. You guys facilities are top notch compared to what we had back in those days.

Andrews BX seems wayyy smaller than the one at Elmendorf. As far as food goes, there's only a taco bell, charley's, robin hood lemonade, and a pizza store. There was a Captain D's but last time I went it was closed. The BX isn't connected to the commisary, but you just walk past the parking lot to get there. They're adding an extension to the BX as far as I know with more food joints and stores and such. Not sure if it'll extend as far as connect to the commisary though. And there' a GNC too, haha.

its not just alaska, 430pm in nyc is also getting dark in the winter

You should visit the hand tram when it gets warmer. The hand tram is scary but fun lol if you go don't go alone. When I first visited Alaska I went in the winter, I was not use to "the sun coming up late and going down early". Then I came back the following summer it was even more beautiful but I was over seeing daylight at 11 at night.

Its like a steel cage over a river and you have to pull yourself to get to the other side of the trail. It's scary at first, but a cool experience.

Retreat, one thing I regret after getting out was Retreat ducking., finding a reason to go indoors during retreat. It seemed like such a hassle then but such an honor now.

On JB MDL the MPs get all mad when you put your hand over your heart while under a surface during retreat. At the commissary, retreat was playing then the national anthem and my dad and I were standing under the I guess cover outside the commissary and an MP that just got off duty walked passed us all pissed of and said, "Get your hands off your hearts, we're under garrison." or something like that. Then of course my dad was about to rip him a new ass hole when I guess he remembered officers 'set the tone' as he put it.

The prices are better than Walmart in Anchorage

When your told to pick a locker and bed in zero week, which bed or beds are the best ones to choose in your opinion? Because I know having the bed by the bathroom sucks and being on a top bunk sucks too lol

+kouyo kato Lol just pick a bed you won't have time to figure it out anyways. They usually tell you to go to the back and fill in the beds until you get to the front

So would you say shopping at normal civilian stores like (target, walmart, supermarkets etc.) is better than shopping at the BX and Commissary -as far as prices are concerned? or is the BX and Commissary better because its tax free (from what I've heard).

+CoCo F Well because on base it's tax free, occasionally you'll find things much cheaper, and it's rarely crowded (except on the weekends) I prefer to shop on base, but sometimes you just want to go to Target because it's not on base lol

Commissary looks like the size of a Sam's Warehouse; gianormous, dude.

I wouldn't mind meeting a nice Air Force guy, I am in the Army now been in two and a half years. Army chow house is mighty good. I don't want to live in Alaska, Texas or Georgia is mighty fine with me. The Air Force guy making this movie is good looking

+QPW311 I just wash my uniforms in the washing machine/drier. They don't need anything special. But if you want, you can dry clean them

+TheNevertaco Whenever you make senior airman or get married. That's pretty much it. They also have an option where, if by some miracle, the dorms are above 90% capacity, they'll start moving out A1Cs. But that never happens :(

+JellyBeanDean Yes, and I'm doing it actually! You can apply to be a state resident upon being stationed here, then after living here for 1 year, you can apply for what's called "Alaska Permanent Fund". You'll then get money each year that you actually live there

It's like $1,000 per person in your family. If it's just you, then it's just about $1,000

You receive an annual (1) check per year which can vary from $700 up to $2,000+/-. So in reality, nobody actually gets "paid" to live here. Have a good job in Alaska or more than one if you want to live comfortably. Cost of living is twice or more than the majority of the U.S.

Where is this base at

Know anything about owning personal guns and keeping them in the dorms? Or do you half to keep them off base.

+Josh Malone You have to keep them in the armory, or wherever. You can't have a knife in your dorm over 3 inches. All the weapons have to be kept with security forces. Or something like that.

It's a weird situation since it's not part of the continental United states, even though it is still part of the actual u.s. it's the same thing with Hawaii.
