Tour of Imperial Beach California, America's Most Southwesterly City (4k UHD)

I take you on a tour of Imperial Beach, California, America's Most Southwesterly City. In this video, you will see some of the highlights of this once forgotten and mostly ignored bedroom community of San Diego. At one time, the rents here were super cheap and there wasn't a lot going on here. That is no longer the case. Imperial Beach is situated on the Mexican American border and has become a popular destination for travelers looking to get away from the crush of San Diego traffic. It is also highly popular with Navy and Marine families as a place to live.
Enjoy the beach tour with me as I show you a few highlights of the city.

Lived there 2001-2004 and absolutely loved it! I saw the "upscale" changes happening. I remember "The Plank" bar and IB Forum - great breakfast. Very walkable and loved the bike path that went from Chula to Coronado, would blade that almost every day. Estuary was always a good walk - just watch the tide timing. Great memories.

This gentleman should be commended for his honesty for mentioning that Imperial Beach is sometimes closed due to Mexico pumping raw sewage into the ocean. it looks like a beautiful place to visit, if only I could get the hell out of McCloud !

I can see property values dropping there due to the Mexican sewage problems.

I worked in Imperial Beach from 2010-2011; it's truly one of the last authentic California surfer towns (besides Ocean Beach and Santa Cruz). It's a shame that US Companies outsourcing their factories across the board have resulted in sewage flowing into Imperial Beach - making the locals sick. What's worse is the alleged local squandering #resisttheserge (Instagram) of money and the US federal gov't dragging their feet on protecting this priceless piece of California culture. What I love most about IB (as the locals call it) are the statues of various surfboard shapes. It makes the streets a walking museum. And the Mexican food. WOW! It's like eating in Mexico. It's my hope that the city government will fund an old-school style light rail rain (similar to San Francisco) to help alliveate traffic and to promote a carless green town.

and false. a 1bdrm would be in the upper $400's if it was like on 9th and further back from the beach. You could expect to pay about $650 for an apt on Seacoast....in the 90s.

if you have the money, it is. Sandcastles is the busiest time of year, in July. Crowds get huge, and parking is impossible. Other than that, it is pretty chill.

Live there 14 years from the late 70s throughout the 80s when you could afford to rent right on the beach it was not a slum it was not a bad place it was a great beach community everybody knew each other gentrification is not a good thing only a douche bag would say that that was A real California surfer town back then it was wonderful I’d give anything if it was the same turning it into another La Jolla is the reason that you have people living in tents on the sides of the roads gentrification sucks if you could rent a place for 200 and the 90s I don’t think you were in imperial Beach we could rent in the hundreds back in the 80s even the late 80s but never for 200 exaggeration on the poorness of it that sewage yeah that was true illegal aliens coming through there through the slew that was true to but you know what still beats the hell out of any gentrified crap this whole country is all about money look what we have because of that life was peaceful back then

great video, I've always planned to mov back to SD but as prices have skyrocketed I've sort of delayed it. IB is still cheaper than most in terms of beach communities go, though not by much in recent years. I am eyeing a place in the area now and will be putting in my offer soon. Maybe I'll se you on the pier sometime.
