Tour of Fricknjeeps Restored Frick model 01 Sawmill
Ғылым және технология
This week Phil and I had the pleasure of driving out to Mt. Airey Maryland and checking out KZreadr Fricknjeep's rebuilt Frick 01 sawmill. It is without a doubt a work of art. The engineering and installation are top notch and more robust than anything I've seen. It's powered by a GM Two Cycle Diesel engine and it has a 56" saw on it. Stay tuned for more visits of our field trip to John's farm.
Thanks for watching!

My great uncle and I ran a double 00 sawmill in the mid 70’s. Great memories.

Yes, the amount of work in that is crazy. It is commercial quality and like brand new. Amazing.
Absolutely beautiful! Im 33 yo and have been working in the mill running headrig and filing saws for going on 7 years now. I currently work in a very high tech automated sawmill ( the largest hardwood sawmill in new england) i hate the technolgy and lack of physical labor. Theres no sense of work ethic or pride in the mill anymore. Working in a sawmill should be a sense of pride and a way of life, not just a paycheck every week like it seems to be know. Shout out to kennebec lumber company! I miss you guys 💪💪💪

Mitchell, Thanks for watching and thank you for the comments. If you ever get to Maryland please give us a shout. My brother in law lives in Moultonborough and my wife grew up in the Lowell MA area. Please don't shy away from the technology.... When you are my age that hard work has an impact and you struggle to do what you did when you were 33! Our mill is old, and the efficiency is horrible. With a saw width of 5/16" we turn one log out of every five into sawdust. And turning 17' long logs that are 30 inch diameter is hard! Are you at Durgin and Crowell now? I imagine if it was not high tech and automated they would not make any money. Keep up the hard work. A good work ethic and positive attitude will go a long way today! Wayne
I've been watching him work on this Mill for several years and patiently waiting to finally see it in action. I enjoy watching him on his other Frick, but this one is a BEAST compared to the other. Not that there's anything unlikable about the other, it's a sweet running machine. But this one can take bigger and much longer logs and he'll finally have a "Chewy" to help him with turning. Poor fella works his patootie off on the other one. lol One thing is for sure when it comes to Fricknjeep, there's never a dull moment and what you see is what you get. Some might say he gives "The Most Interesting Man In The World" a run for his money and win it by a landslide. lol 👍👍

Yes! I offered to bring John some BAL's (Big American Logs) to try out on that new mill. Once of course he gets the log roller hooked up. It is a masterpiece.
I've been following John for quite a while now. He sent me to your channel. I met him at the Paul Bunyan show this year. Great guy. What you see on You Tube is what he really is. Bill

Thank you.
Thanks man, i greatly appreciate the appreciation! Dont get me wrong, im not totally against automation... just some. Im also a lumber grader. I love mental math and puzzles. We recently had a trim xpert/ grade-x installed and that took away my daily grading expertise that i SOOOO much enjoyed 😅 thats the thing i more dislike in relation to automation, but when it comes to the high tech/ fast paced scanning system of lewis controls log scanning system im ALL about it! ❤ i grew up in the 90s when technology first started to shine, which i have a huge interest in , so i can relate( also do computer programing as a hobby). I look at my total log count/lines per minute and BF of the day as my " high score" the joysticks/controls and buttons feel like nothing more than a veideo game to me. Racing the carriage back and forth, catching logs on the carriage and racing back and forth as fast as i can through a saw that i benched and filed is the ultimate challenge 🥰 putting my hand/eye coordination and attention to detail in competition with my ablity to bench the best cutting saw i can is like the ultimate level of working smarter, not harder! I absolutely LOVE my job/industry. Sawmilling is a way of life to me, not a job. I see it as being fortunate enough to get paid for a hobby that i immensely enjoy. Ive been through Maryland more than a few times ( im in new hampshire) and always stop at a new sawmill anytime i discover one (like a kid in a candy shop lol) id love to see what you guys have going on if im ever in the area again.

Mitch, Wow, that's awesome. Does the mill you work at use bandsaws or circular saws? I imagine since it is a commercial operation they use a bandsaw?? I'm interested in learning more about the sharpening process from a pro! Especially if you run circular saws. Thanks for watching our videos!
Just subbed because I found you on Frick n Jeep with John.

YES.... Next Week!!!
You might want to warn your audience is going haywire again, deleting people's subscription list. KZread seems to do this randomly, willy-nilly. I didn't notice I was unsubscribed until I'd noticed fricknjeep wasn't posting anything for a few days. Actually he was, so now I have some catching up to do.
