Residents are not very sure how Banana Ground, Manchester, the home of Olympic champion Elaine Thompson, got its name, but one of the oldest farmer Kenneth Balfour shared the story he heard.
He said in the days when banana was king, the community was notorious for its extensive acreage of the 'green gold', as it was known. So large was the volume, aerial spraying was the order of the day, hence the name Banana Ground fell on the community.
I am Fire Reid. Welcome to my KZread Channel. Here you will see True Jamaican Country life. Real Jamaican Vibes. Life on the Farm with the plants and animals. Exploring intersting Jamaican places. COME ALONG ON THIS JOURNEY WITH ME. FIRE REID - True Jamaican Vibes

I am watching this video and getting anxiety when you are riding up and down the hills. I am from Mandeville and had to do the same when I was younger but for some reason now I get nervous and scared. I can't believe this is where I come from. It's a beautiful place. I also can't imagine walking to school and church, with all those hills that we had to walk it's just amazing. I enjoyed watching this video.

Thank you for making this video taking us to very high ground. I looked this up because of a comment made by an announcer during the Women'sTokyo 100m final yesterday. He said that the Champion was from a place "without paved roads and running water." That's absolutely a gross misrepresentation.

They enjoy belittling people. For example, Jamaica having block and mortar houses. Why would the houses be anything else? We do not experience harsh winters that necessitate padding our wall spaces. I also dare to say no one lives in a mud hut. But you should hear some of the foolish questions and assumptions made. A very bad representation indeed.

I can just imagine how cold this place is at Christmas time. I just feel sad that I could never live there because of the altitude. I grew up in Westmoreland in the hills too and didn't associate my headaches and nosebleed with the altitude until I travelled to America. They called it change in barometric pressure such as, rain, snow, and high altitude. Beautiful scenery.

Love Potion #9... Mexico City is the same, when I first went there, it was kinda hard to breath, and switching a blanket would cause static looking light small fire flies, it was very cold at nights too, despites it's relative closeness to the equator, but I got use to it within weeks, so living in that kind of condition is not difficult to overcome.

Good work my youth this needed to be done bcz I heard a n English Commentator telling the World that Elaine is from a place with unpaved Rds, no electricity, no running water, no plumbing etc. like she was a nobody , someone who attended Manchester High School could not be the type of person he was trying to paint of her. I'm from Kgn. but my Father is from FOUR PATHS between Manchester and Clarendon, so I know these types of Community, very peaceful,, people not rich, but live a good healthy life, even if the Rd. is not paved, it would have been just a pathway to the main Rd. I've seen this type of pathway on a trip to An Apple Farm in Massachusetts

Fire Reid thanks for this video. I have a quick comment/suggestion. I think you should consider changing your Fire intro or change the " just another night in California comment" it seem a bit indifferent to the tragedy those fires caused. 👍
