Last time I went to Carlsbad cavern’s was back in the late 70’s, I was 11 yrs old and it was amazing even to a child. I am planning to take my kids there next summer to see family and enjoy the Feast Days!

It is a lot dryer now. They made mistakes by putting a paved parking lot over the cave and the elevator is bringing in dry air. The paved parking is not letting water in. So it is still beautiful but too dry.

An 11 year old is old enough to appreciate the beauty and the science of the cave. If you go in the summer, get your tour tickets early. Summer is a great time to be in the "always air conditioned" cave!

One correction, although this video is a bit old now. The cave is not 250 million years old. The Capitan Reef formation is about that old but the caves formed long after that, about 4 million years ago.

I can't wait for this pandemic to be over either! I avoid indoor space with lots of others around and the cave is indoors, even though it has lots of "air volume"

I used to live in midland, Texas. One of my big regrets is not going to Carlsbad. I was so in love with Guadalupe mountains national park that Carlsbad, though only a half hour away, was never a thought

Did you get a chance to visit Big Bend while you lived there? Guadalupe has a charm all its own. It's for hikers and has some great trails. Carlsbad gets more attention because it's "easier" to visit.... less walking / hiking and good for all seasons.

This literally just happened today. My parents, my 17 year old sister and I(15) went to the Carlsbad Caverns today. My parents have back problems so my sis and I went up ahead. At the bottom of the cave we got really far from my parents and near the elevator. Not seeing them there, we decided to hike back up the trail(biggest mistake of my life) On our way up, we didn't have any water, and the air was really hard to breathe in. Her and I were about to give up after a torturous half hour of walking with no water. My mouth stopped salivating and my lips began to bleed. Terrible feeling. Worst part was everyone was basically gone and no rangers crossed our path. Finally we made it to the top of the cave and got tons of water. Hope my story kinda makes sense but if it doesn't im sorry.

Sorry to hear about your difficult hike back up the trail. It can feel long and it is uphill all the way and you do need water to hydrate along the way. I hope all is well after you got some water. Where did your parents go? Did you enjoy the cave otherwise? Was it crowded?

@@JourneytoAllNationalParks turns out when they got the Big Room they ended up taking the elevators out. In the beginning the cave had a decent amount of people but by the end there was almost nobody. All in all, despite feeling death was near, I really did enjoy the whole experience. It's one I'll certainly never forget.

You are welcome. This is the only cave in the national parks that allow tripod, which makes it easier to get pictures in the dark environment

I would be kinda scared tho! With the rocks hanging above you... also did you know that you should not open your mouth and look up because the bats could poop?

Definitely want to stay away from bats! I think with the people and the lighting, bats would stay away.

There shouldn't be bats bc of the human population visiting in an out everyday :)

@@eandsm4620 the bats are so awesome! Right about sunset before it gets totally dark you hear a noise coming out of the cave and then whoosh! All the bats fly out from the cave after their long nap all day to go hunting for food! Sooo many thousands of bats! You gotta go back to see it!
