I’am a minimalist that would like it as a main house. Hope you might offer it in the future.

That’s exactly what I said to the people at Abodu. For now it is designed to be added to an existing single family home.

@@lisaholderness369 these are designed, as I understand it, to be added in Southern California to an existing house on a lot. So, for example, if you want to add a rental.

All comes down to the type of permit. Abodu is an ADU backyard home provider where we obtain ADU permits to add secondary housing onto your property. All models though can be used for full-time living but would require to be placed on a location with a primary home.

This is confusing ... whats the reasoning?
It’s nice, but for $400,000? I feel like it has a limited market for that size/price.
The price point is 50% of our property (complete with brand new house in Seattle City Limits ) … I’m sorry, but that’s just not financially feasible but for very high end properties.
Really nice ! Im told these "cannot" be used as a primary home ? huh ? Also its really hard to know what is actually Included with the home... each and every thing !?
Get the price down significantly to where it makes sense in most of the country and I will likely be a buyer as well as an investor in a company poised for the huge disruption opportunity
Great look I need 3 ADU's now the problem is I am in the East can we get this here?

Nice tour! I have one question that regards something I've seen in the vast majority of ADU/tiny houses I've seen. The front wall is a giant window, often taking up a substantial part of the structure's entire wall space. It doesn't seem to matter how good windows might be, they always have less protection from the outside climate than does a well insulated wall. Also, if they don't have screens, opening them creates an invitation to every flying object and small reptile. I live in Los Angeles County and even with our mild weather and relatively bug-free environment, these are still big problems to that point that I never left my French doors open in my last house. I was sure to use sliders with screens for the house I've just built for myself. Anyway, why do these home manufacturers put floor-to-ceiling windows and doors on their structures? They likely make for a sexy presentation to a shopper but are highly impractical for day-to-day living.

Hi! They have a screen that is an accessory. I repeat: they have a screen that is an accessory.

Totally see the concern here. The sliding door is an upgrade to help elevate the space of an indoor-outdoor experience. With an added deck, you're creating that much additional square footage. We have homeowners who opt to add their own screen doors or choose to go with our standard conventional open/close front door. With homeowners all across Califonia, climate regarding objects and small reptiles or insects hasn't been an issue brought to our radar.
My main disappointment is no window screens. We have mosquitoes in California, and flies. Imagine fly traps hanging from the ceiling. But you got the appliances right. Counter space for single occupants or working couples who don’t need a turkey-sized oven nearly as much as a place to fix breakfast, pack a lunch, reheat leftovers (room for toaster, coffee pot, cutting board, blender) is essential along with storage beneath it (I would lose the dishwasher). Too bad my lot has room for a 12’ deep, cause that’s where the storage is.

We hear you! We're working closely with our Product Team on this concern.
Dwell website says $389,000, that's a crazy high price for this unit. You can buy a full size home for that money unless you live in crazy California.

Hi Christopher, there are two different sizes and different ways to option them. I would check with ABODU directly. They can get site specific.
I understand all the glass makes it seem bigger but unless you’re on 20 acres how do have any privacy?
Amazing ADU! Is there a 2/1 version of this under 700 sq ft? And, what’s the cost for this one?
@LARealty

I’ll tag @abodu. I’m not sure if a 2 bedroom is in the works, but that’s a great idea, especially now that California is allowing you to split the lot and sell the ADU separately.
I’m guessing they sport a California price too? Yep. They do. I’ll pass.

California prices are generally some elitist, disgusting, forcing-of-a-class-system, yet pretending to be concerned with the very values they smash to bits with an invisible working class below their feet. No one should pay 200 K for 120 sq ft tiny house. Edit to add; I, too, pass. ;)

@@ellerythe8th Yep!
The Dwell House is nicely designed but it feels awfully tight. Though the ceiling is 9 1/2 feet at its tallest point, because most of the ceiling area is much shorter, the interior feels claustrophobic, more like a mobile home than luxury product. The Dwell House is great for one person but, again, tight for two. I see buyers of these homes flipping them frequently. I subscribe to Dwell so I'm surprised that, with their architectural expertise, they didn't hit this out of the ballpark. For the same size footprint and roughly the same price, the Lloyoll SKALI Bungalow prefab home would be my choice.
If they could’ve raised the roof and add a loft the bedroom

This company is only installing these in California. I had a lizard in my house one and i chased it around and then it disappeared!
Pretty but could not hear a word. . G uy needs a microphone or to hold the phone himself and record. Or, see if you can amp it up from your posting. Not all computers are home entertainment centers. I think other channels are more useful. This does not happen with them. Air system looks outdated.
Washing machine and Dryer in bedroom is a big NoOoooooo!!!
This company is a nightmare. I'm 14 months into a "6 month project" and they've stopped responding to my messages. Run away.
Nope. Nope. Hell no
Horrible design. The countertop height works if your around 4' tall, but then you'd be too short to reach the overhead storage. An average person would have to wreck their back bending over to use the counters and would need a step stool to reach anything in the upper cabinets. Why waste valuable storage space with a dishwasher? I mean really, there's hardly enough storage to keep enough dishes to fill the dishwasher. It's not like you're gonna have large dinner parties in that little house. The hallway storage is useless - I don't want to bend over to get at stuff, and it's so small that you cannot store larger items like blankets, craft items or sports equipment. Floor to ceiling storage would be much more effective. Being an exhibitionist, I do LOVE the idea of a floor to ceiling window in the bathroom so all my neighbors can watch me get into and out of the shower! Not to mention the fact that there's no screen to prevent wildlife from sharing my living space! I suppose you could hang a curtain over the window, but then you'd loose the light and would have to reach behind the curtain to open the window... OK, I can't take any more of this. I stopped watching at around 5 minutes. I don't need to see any more ill thought design, no matter how attractive it might look on the surface.

I think most people like having a dishwasher these days. The counters seemed a normal height to me. Screens could be added. This is just an option. You could certainly take a garage and customize it yourself.
Overpriced.
