    Haha I was a binman and we dumped there! Our truck was Broken so to tip it out one of us (crew of three) had to get out and go round the back to manually activate the tipper function. I'll never forget the feeling of walking over the rubbish. Fun fact, if we needed to go toilet we had to climb in the back of the truck to do our business. I'm so glad I got out of that line of work. I worked for Wellingborough council at the time.

    I'm in the USA, and in an affluent area and a college town. The rubbish people throw out is very clean and consists of many perfectly useable things. I feel sad when I see still working electric things, in the rubbish, like stereos and portable units, toasters, clean clothing and bedding. If I get to the trash barrels before it rains,....I have pulled out amazing finds. Computer stereos, clean bins in every size, some clothing like coats & hats,....household tools and dishes, platters,..glassware,...clean clothing.

    Landfill is great for our planet. It provides millions of years of food the soil microbes to break down & eat. Save the planet - more Landfill sites for our soil Microbes...

    Important when recycling to think about the generation of waste and reduce it starting with engineering, designing and creating less landfills, keep in mind the future of generations to come and environmental sustainability to ensure the protection of our environment.

    2:20-21 - some recyclables fell out of a bag. Probably because some goof put a recyclables bag in general waste. Or because some municipal goof couldn't make the distinction during pick-ups.

    Thank you for the short presentation of your landfill site. It was an eye opener. I'm a waste management enthusiast in South Africa. Wish to learn moe about waste management process especially separation from source. What social programmes you may have to assist with this

    I agree, I am a waste management enthusiast too. It's a subject which has slowly become more and more interesting to me. Currently I am studying a masters and I am looking at food waste. If you are intersted in reaching out to this company look their website up and send them an email. They probably won't answer this video.

    Landfill site's are expensive to tip a tun.

  • @petercdowney

    @petercdowney

    4 жыл бұрын

    That's because the government charges a very expensive landfill tax for every ton of waste that is sent to landfill. In addition, councils face fines on top of the landfill tax if they landfill too much readily biodegradable waste e.g. food or garden waste. This is to encourage councils to ensure that more of their waste is recycled.

    Unless you live a no-waste life and do not use any sort of disposable packaging and waste services, you are also contributing to this. It's easy to say this is crime from the comfort of your home, where you simply throw something into a bin, and watch it disappear into the horizon.
