Funny you mentioned the “change of work”. Following you few years now you inspired me to change my business to landscaping gardens for wildlife here in Ireland last year, previously biodiversity was focus in my garden only but now I can spread that passion too. Couldn’t been happier with what I do 😊🙏🏻

Fantastic, so glad to hear this and even better knowing that I helped encourage you, I still need to visit Ireland but when I do it'd be great to meet up. Thanks ever so much for letting me know that you're doing this, I've been doing this for 20 years and, believe me, in the beginning it was difficult enough to get a client to put up a bird box... but I have seen the upsurge in wildlife landscapers/designers/gardeners in the last 4 years and knowing that the wildlife is benefitting is reward enough. Well done, and best of luck, keep at it! Best wishes, Joel

Oh my, this was like wandering through a fairy tale. What an absolute dream wildlife garden. This is beyond beautiful in every way possible. Every thing looked perfect. And all of those flowers growing together in perfect harmony. It looked like an exquisite water color painting. Absolutely divine. The cow parsley looked incredible. All of those little white flowers reminded me of a starry sky. I totally fell in love with this. Thank you so much for taking the time to make it possible to watch something so incredibly wonderful🌻

Absolutely loving these tours, Joel! I’ve been breaking them up over time (the beautiful three hour tour took me a few days to watch). It’s wonderful to see so many more people planting for wildlife. I also agree that it’s okay to have a mix of plants, where some are non-native, so long as they are not invasive. I aim for at least 80% intentionally planted native plants, and no more than 20% non-native. I really wish I could grow most of the plants you encourage, but as we’ve talked, most are unfortunately invasive (garlic mustard, purple loosestrife, yellow flag iris). I LOVE that you have encouraged others for career changes. I wish I could (maybe, one day, if the wife makes enough to offset my current income). My dream is to have my own small native plant nursery one day… Keep up the great work, my friend. Talk with you soon. - John

Hello! What brilliant weather we've had this weekend, I managed to get half hour in the front garden and have seen at least 4 species of butterfly today, was going to do an update video but everyone was out walking and wanting to stop and chat about the garden so a video would have been impossible, but the word is spreading locally - although not to my local council I might add.... the low growing wildflowers I planted in the verge outside my house after the internet cabling people ripped it all up, was awash with red clover, BFT etc and they mowed the lot on Friday, now it's just dried grass cuttings everywhere. I did do a post on Twitter/X about it and it got 5.1k "likes" and the council have been called out... oh if I had more time! But I hope you've had a briliiant weekend, thanks for always being there - best wishes, Joel

2:18 in and I’m already buzzing! Dandelions literally aerate soil and draw up nutrients to other plants through their long tap root. They can get huge but there’s nothing to stop you allowing them to self seed and weed out what’s not wanted whilst keeping a good amount of younger ones in the garden borders careful management of them and your onto a real winner. I’ll continue this video tomorrow Joel. And as always thank you for uploading this tour! 🙏🙏🙏 what a brilliant garden to be working in and once the pond goes in the owners really will have an area of interest for even more wildlife, I also have to say I totally agree with the mosaic idea there’s nothing wrong with having a manicured lawn or border but there’s also nothing wrong with mown paths and small meadow areas and if you can have all then you definitely should brush piles are a favourite thing for me and old plant stems get thrown to the side or back of borders allowing wildlife to move in, I’m even thinking of adding large plant saucers if play sand for birds to bath in! The more we all the do the more we get to help all those in need and at the same time they entertain us instead of a mobile phone!!!!! Thanks for these tours Joel they’re brilliant and the more you can do the better I really appreciate them.

@@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton excuses... blaming the client lol. GCSE business studies taught me that "the client knows best" 😉🙂 On an unrelated side note, have you considered a video on what people can do on land that is overly fertile? We have a horse stables near me and it means all of the nitrogen run off means nettles, dock, couch grass and cow parsley end up dominating. Now I know nettles in moderation are great, but it'd be nice to get some diversity.

Such a beautiful garden! Life goals. Thank you for sharing (and to the owner as well-it’s given me ideas). So due to a broken mower and my hubby not being able to mow this spring, I jumped onto the chance to do a #nomowsummer with our front and backyard. For the front yard, we mowed edges last weekend since it was looking super overgrown compared to the perfect shorn carpets of our neighbors and I was afraid they’d call the city on us. I put up a little yard flag I found on Amazon that said “Pardon Our Weeds, We’re Feeding the Bees”. BUT it gave me a product idea for your shop: It would be so cool if you sold yard flags, maybe with the Wild Your Garden design of your book (or whatever else you dream up), and with the hashtags of #NoMowSummer, and #Mowsaic, but also a QR Code that linked to a page outlining the idea of not mowing, pictures of meadow lawns, and simple steps to be more wildlife friendly. I’d buy a few in a heartbeat! (Hopefully they’d be available to ship to the US, I wouldn’t even care about how much shipping costs). Just an idea, since I don’t think my simple flag conveys what I’m really hoping to do. 😊

Trying to work towards something like this, but the garden - an acre of gentle hillside - is completely infested with creeping buttercup. Its going to be a long job getting rid of it without destroying everything else. There are places where it has completely eliminated everything else, and at least those areas can be weed-killed, something I use with reluctance but at least then I can encourage a more eclectic mix in those patches. In so many other areas though they are intermixed with other wild flowers that I want to keep. Its going to take a while!
