    The last two tours have been so exciting that there really is no need to manufacture non-existent drama. First season covered arguably one of the best TDF's in history and yet the show focused mostly on useless drama. For instance the show never even showed the single most iconic moment of the race when Jonas waited for Tadej after a small crash and they shook hands on the legendary Hautacam stage. I still enjoy the show, but I don't agree with their editorial decisions.

    It's a shame they try to create fake drama that wasn't there about doping, focus on crashes half the trailer of which several occurred in other races, not TDF. And no attention given to the racing for GC or stage wins, the tactics in the races, the nerves and emotions. Hope this grows the sport, but honestly this is an embarrassment for the creators.

    Agree. When watching this US productions like from Netflix, I always feel it´s over-simplified and compressed to the minimal human emotions like fear. European productions are much deeper in story telling, tecnology, tactics, riders and explaining the why instead of only the what.

    Maybe, but it is a great opportunity to generate interest in cycling for those new to cycling as a sport. It's very 'simple' for cycling fans and fake drama, and spoon feeds how cycling as a sport works for non cyclists. Hopefully will do for cycling here in the US what 'Drive to Survive' has done for F1. Before that show no one here knew anything about F1 (just stupid Nascar/Indycar...) Now so many people know talk about it / it's amazing. I do think it will mean more 'Crazy (Non Cycling) drunk 'fans' on the side of the road at the Tour though!

    Lots of folks getting upset about the crash sequences in the trailer. While I don't like the emphasis on crashes in general, you cannot really say crashes in other races won't affect the TdF this year. Jonas, Remco, and Primoz all crashed hard in the same race earlier this Spring and their injuries and ability to recover may play a key role in deciding this year's Tour.

    For those of you who don't get it (which looks like a lot of you), the idea of shows like this isn't to show the literal on-the-surface reality, as you get in the contemporary coverage of the race. It's a dramatised form, intended to uncover the unstated truths that lie beneath, to present narratives that give us a sense of how it feels for the people involved in the race. And of course to add some hype to it to appeal to those not normally interested in cycling! If that isn't for you, stop whining and watch livestreams of real races for the "authentic" action instead.

  • @Jan-se1nd

    @Jan-se1nd

    The problem is that what they're portraying isn't pro cycling, but something that doesn't exist. Pro cycling is abundant with drama -- excessively so! But when your 'dramatised form' can't or won't even explain the most basic tactics, the most basic idea of any given team's or rider's reasons for acting as they do, then we're beyond a point where you can show 'unstated truths that lie beneath'. Or in other words, when the veneer of your dramatisation is so thin as to be transparent and we can all clearly see that there's nothing there, then what?

    Looks abominably bad. Mainly crashes and hyped up nonsense. Whoever watches this crap and then watches a real race is going to be very disappointed (“why don’t they crash every other minute?”).

    Garbage company and y’all know why. I’m glad I unsubscribed in 2021 and never looked back. Honestly, Netflix should just shut down because it’s gone downhill since the password sharing crack down especially
