I blame the moderator, he could easily have skipped a handful of Jonas/VLAB questions. The questions were mostly submitted ahead of time, so I understand why there were so similar. If I only could ask him one question, I would have picked one that involved something with both Pog and Jonas. The Jonas presser didn’t have as many Pog questions, but the journalists were in the room with Jonas so they could adjust.

Really crazy how good Tadej’s English has developed over the last 5 or so years.

If Tadej wants, he could just defend his yellow jersey and play safe for the rest of the Tour. But we all know that he likes to race so he will propably not do that.

We also know that Jonas took 1:38 on Pogacar on a relatively easier TT on stage 16 last year. We also know that Jumbo Visma's rouleurs have cracked Pogacar in the past, whereas UAEs ditto have never cracke JV

Jonas is being patient AND coming back from a serious injury. It makes complete sense for him to ride how he is especially during the gravel stage where he already lost his bike and was riding Tratniks. If he’s isolated from his team and had another bike problem it would be catastrophic. Tadej and Remco tend to ride more with their heart, which is exciting to watch while Jonas tends to ride more with his head.

Stop perpetuating the drama about the bike swap. Only cry babies use this as an argument. Jan and Jonas have almost identical settings regarding height and reach, so just drop it. Us who raced many years have raced with various bikes and settings, most of the time far from perfect and many of us did great regardless. Jonas is always a wheelsucker. Nothing different previous years when he wasn't coming off of an injury so that point too is ridiculous. He attacks Tadej only when Tadej is beat and over. Otherwise he sucks wheels.

He's such a pleasure to watch on the bike and a great ambassador off the bike.

Why cant we just enjoy the amazing riders? I like all the riders, and each have their strong side. Jonas would not gain anything by riding with Pogi to the finish. Pogi would take it 100% in a sprint. So Jonas has to await his chance later on, not as existing, but the clever solution.

I don't think anyone knows if Pog will start to get tired after the Giro or Jonus will improve or not. Pog getting fried on last year's time trial was tricky for him to take and cracking the next day was either psychological or stomach (bad tummy day) or he just cracked. We also don't know how the others will come in or not and take on the race. I'd like to get hold of pog's team mates by the throat as they seem to forget their job and start to leave Pog exposed. I think there are one or two in that Team who aren't playing the team game :/

Pocagar cracked on that climb was most likely calories from what the other pros were saying. And it was pretty evident because he came back and won the next mountain stage.

@@FreeMTrider I heard his stomach couldn't keep up with the food /gel intake. That was the last official line anyhow so make of that what we will. Cyclist and their teams aren't always telling the truth to us so who knows. Heat has been mentioned as a factor with Pog. It's all in the air still. There's so much we don't know about these riders. The French riders are making me scratch my head at the moment. Why are they suddenly successful?? Could it be luck or is there pressure from French Government for home success and with the head of the uci being French too, is he getting involved with the anti doping with the French teams, allowing success to the home side? France is politically in the poop at the moment and French success may look good for Macron. I dunno, cycling is a bit of a messed up sport on the quiet.

@@jerrychicken967 Yeah who knows. It also could be that he just doesn't hold back sometimes and will throw down if he feels like it.....but that is what makes it exciting. I think the French have been way, way overdue, so this isn't a surprise. Everyone wants to win and at some point they will. I know for myself as just a Cat 1 racer, it's comes and goes. But that isn't anything to compare to. I just know this year the TDF is doing pretty damn good.

@@FreeMTrider yep, I was only cat 3, alas naturally slow 🙄 I say that knowing that fast riders aren't always smart as their talent gets them through, Remco being a casing point. In the old days, before ear peices, riders could go mad with abandon and if they're not smart they'd get blow their legs off before they'd get a telling off from the car. Brains was also a big factor in the past. These days, fairly stupid riders can win 😜 I think with Pog and Remco, their ego and over enthusiasm, doesn't help their cause. They seem to call the shots too which isn't ideal. With those two, it does make good racing to watch 😊

Pojacar and Vingegard are friends, even though they are viewed as rivals. They nake each other better. Tadej is amazing with 2 wins and 2 2nd place finishes in this grand tour. As far as Remco is concerned, he's the young guy now where Tadej was the young guy with the white jersey the last 4 years.

the way i see tadej winning this race is simply to follow the moves. he doesn't need to get more time on jonas, necessarily, but can easily get it if he waits until 500 meters to go and then punch it. he and jonas seem to be evenly matched in the mountains and what i notice is that tadej obviously has a more explosive punch that jonas so when he goes he immediately gets a 10 second gap on jonas but jonas claws his way back. so if he follows the attacks--cause jonas has to attack--he saves energy and can gain 10-15 seconds on each mountain stage. remko is dangerous, imo. if tadej doesn't have 1:30 on remko going into the mountains then remko can win the TT and hence the race. but imo remko will lose time on the climbs, possibly signifigant time, just due to him being not as strong a climber as tadej and jonas. my two fears for tadej is that a) he rides too aggressively and then tires and jonas beats him to the line and b) that he is inconsistent and has a bad day and loses significant time the way he has the last two years. tadej simply isn't a conservative rider the way jonas is and that is his achilles heel

Jonas answered the explosive attack from Tadej on the uphill in one of the early stages. I agree that Tadej should win it, but only if he can avoid cracking like last year and the year before. Remco I think will crack at some point, but at his best he is a real threat.

I’ve never seen Jonas be able to match Tadej when Tadej jumps. Even Jonas admits he’s not explosive the way Tadej is. That’s why I say just attack within the last 500 meters or so because Tadej needs to cross the line with a few seconds of a gap. When he goes too early like he did last year when the motos blocked tadejs second attack Jonas is able to crawl his way back. If I recal Tadej jumped with sever kilometers from the top and it went nowhere because eventually Jonas caught up. So he has to go later. But yeah. Tadej cannot afford one bad day. I’m honestly surprised that Jonas is riding the way he is. He had as dominant a start to the season as Tadej did and I think if he had the right preparation than Tadej would be on the back foot

Pretty funny, Vingegaard said that he is of course afraid of Pogacar because he is a great rider. Yet, Pogacar is not afraid of Vingegaard. Well, you should be because in the high mountains you will drop.

The he way he talks, he has no fear of Jonas ever dropping him this year. You can just tell from the answer he gave about stage 2 and Jonas doing a good job "holding his wheel" up san luca.

Urška was not selected to the team for Olympics in Paris..

I know it’s strategy but I HATE seeing Jonas getting free rides, sitting on like a haemorrhoid. I find it frustrating I can only imagine how frustrating it is for more exciting riders like Pog and Remco.

He looks annoyed and tired, i hope he will have a greater smile in the coming stages.

I felt more tired and hangry after one single 4h ride this weekend 😂 Anyone who has ever ridden a bike in earnest for a prolonged time knows the rest days are actually the worst 😁

Jonas vs All of UAE + Soudal + Bora + Ineos. Jonas does not have a team to make it hard in mountains. People please stop with this nonsense that 1 rider can take on the whole peloton! Hell you watched yesterday right? Tadej tried to take on the peloton and it didn’t work. Why do you expect different results?

When have you ever seen Jonas loose the wheel while secondary UAE riders pulled? Pogi wants to go slow and then explode, and Jonas want to go fast and then increase.

If Jonas launches on La Bonette, gets a gap, & bridges to satellite riders in the break, having Almeida & Ayuso hanging around isn't actually gonna do Pogi any good

@@fredirojko4330 The way I remember it Tadej wasn‘t an exceptionally marked rider for his first win. I was watching Primoz and surprised that Tadej kept up with him and outsprinted him often at the line; but he was not an all-out favorite to win. Candidate, yes - all out favorite, no. Jonas is in another position now than Tadej was back then, you can bet every other team will go out of their way to drop him at the smallest opportunity.

The initial problem for him is that this Tour has been created for Jonas in mind. Two hard stages, and a time trial at the end. Knowing well that Jonas can be juiced to the max, with legal drugs ( A Ketone supplier is a sponsor of Visma) while Pogacar can’t take this drug as much ( last Tour he tried then next day he couldn’t feel his legs, a known site effect). Thus, Jonas will try until the last days not to loose more time, then get juiced, and then we know the outcome. Pogacar is a racer, Jonas is a Grand Tour champion who executes plans to perfection. Two different race styles.

Jonas is clearly one of if not the best climber in the world. Pogacar is as well just a step below of Jonas. Everything else though, Pogacar is supreme when compared to Jonas.

@@tolstoyed we’re currently in the 2024 TDF season, so I’m not sure how else you’ll determine the best climber in the world right now. Last year Jonas absolutely gassed Pogacar on the mountains in TDF, and also earlier this season Jonas comfortably won Tirreno-Adriatico. Currently in my opinion, Jonas is in the hot seat until the tour ends😅

@@boxofspace pog had that one bad day last year on tdf when vinge dropped him by 4 minutes, other than that i’m pretty sure pog won more mountain stages. he also won the giro this season. i’m not arguing for either one, just found it odd how you determined who’s the better climber

​@@ThomasSadowski he lost the tour racing every stage last year its logical that he doesnt this year.. but he is. so its an open ended book at the moment . both riderrs have deccent teams, makes sense to use them usually. the tough parts of the race havent started yet. pogs comes into the race fitter and stronger, but we all kinda knew that

Jonas coming back from his crash and being in such good shape is amazing. However, as a Trauma physician, I can say that the seriousness of his injuries are a bit overstated. Very unusual for a 27 yr old healthy male with his injuries to require ICU level care. I suspect it was likely because he is a VIP. I see his type of injuries every shift. The pain from his rib fractures likely the hardest hurdle to overcome. Amazing recovery, none the less.

Sorry Tadej, but Jonas is not even close to 100%. Otherwise it would be useless to train as much as you guys do...just train 1 month after you rested a few month and ride the tour de france ;-)

I agree it’s not exciting but it is old school cycling. 🚴🏽 I really like Tadej but I find it a little rich for the yellow jersey to complain about gc riders not helping when they had to chase down his attack from the main field. Neither Jonas or Remco was expected to pull. Remco can do what he wants but Jonas played the right card. There are several miles left to figure this out.

a 25km lumpy stage isnt the worst, wouldnt beat the heavy guys in a 5km sprint but takes very little slope to overturn that power to weight ration

Pog has also made some unbelievable gains in TT. He lost the 2022 stage 20 TT to Wout and Jonas as well as in 2023. If you look at the UCI worlds TT results he has always been significantly behind Remco but this tdf he was only 10 seconds behind. That's only 0.5 seconds a KM to the best time trialist in the world. Off the charts gains!!!

Lets be real, Pogs scawed. Losing 3 times in a row to Jonas would crush him. Especially after so much trash talking. The more shit Remco and Pog talk, the further they walk out on the wire, and the more tragic their fall will be when Jonas cuts the wire. I have no doubt Remco will fall off the podium this week. Humble pie is being made right now. The only one with a chance of winning besides Jonas is Pog.
