This in the new world: No yard, small lot so it's all built "upwards". HOA will be unreal. 20% down=$400K leaves you financing $1.6 million at today's rates of 6%.......Is it really worth it people?

You be surprised how much people can afford. What if they got a 30-year fixed. A lot of people living in these homes can already afford it. You are assuming everyone in the world has the same financial situation. It's all about location, location, location. I could get a cheaper house in a different state but it's not going to have California weather.
