A rogue-like Touhou game, quite interesting.
So, the early access for LNS just came out earlier today and I wanted to get a video out quickly to show it off. LNS is a Western-developed Touhou STG with some pretty big names behind it such as Eddybird, you can definitely tell it's Western by the silly writing which is something I think more Touhou STGs should have. The music also slaps so hard, I really wish more fanmade STGs would stray away from the typical ZUN-style like this game does.
This game has an HP system, you only lose a life if you run out of HP (and you will see why this is a thing with how random and insane some of these attacks can be). An interesting thing this game does is how it handles Spell Card captures, to capture a spell, you must get enough graze before you shoot/time out the pattern, I think this is a really neat way to make players engage with the spell while also incentivizing players to level up their graze stat as you are rewarded with some HP healing items upon a capture.
You can access a shop to buy different gear to help you win, you definitely want to go for items that help with power, items, and lives as this game does have some of your typical nasty euroshmup elements like very high enemy HP, unavoidable hits, and silly RNG stuff. While in the shop, you can trade in your currently held items and power/bombs/graze for credits, this is how you're able to buy stuff in the first place.
At the start of the run, you are given the option to start with what are known as Curses and Wards, these are basically permanent buffs/debuffs you can apply. I chose to opt out of using either as Wards would make the game too easy, but Curses make the game Not Fun (this reminds me of the Len'en 4 random events which are less of a good challenge and more like a huge nuisance).
This game probably has the worst visibility I've ever seen in a shmup in my life, easily my biggest issue with the game (and this is coming from someone who can handle bad visibility compared to most other STG players). I literally have no clue what is and isn't a bullet on certain attacks.
The nice thing about going for an LNBNS run is that I can just sell my bomb item so I don't accidentally bomb, I can also just avoid buying the sidearms as well lol.
All in all, a very interesting game, but it isn't for everyone. I think this game does the "rogue-like" idea a lot better than both Len'en 4 and 100th Black Market, although I think I still prefer Fan-made Virtual Autography. I definitely think the more casual players will get some enjoyment out of LNS.
i was gonna use chiyuri but the run i did before this one ended up crashing because she spawns too many shot graphics which chugs the game on my nasa pc oh well i hope the devs can fix that
