TOUCH AND GO @ World's Most Challenging AIRPORT @Paro Bhutan | Base Check for the Captain to Be
Paro Airport in Bhutan is known for its challenging approach and departure procedures due to the surrounding mountainous terrain.
Conducting a base check at Paro Airport requires specialized training and certification due to the unique operating conditions.
A base check, also known as a line check, is an evaluation conducted by a qualified instructor or examiner to assess a pilot's proficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures during actual flight operations. During a base check at Paro Airport, the pilot's ability to handle the challenging approach and departure procedures specific to this airport would be evaluated.
The base check at Paro Airport would typically involve a thorough evaluation of the pilot's knowledge, skills, and decision-making abilities while operating in mountainous terrain and during challenging weather conditions. It would also assess the pilot's understanding and application of specific procedures related to Paro Airport, including the approach, landing, departure, and obstacle avoidance techniques unique to this airport.
Given the complexity and unique nature of flying at Paro Airport, pilots must undergo rigorous training and gain experience under the guidance of experienced instructors. They need to demonstrate proficiency in conducting safe and precise operations at this airport to ensure the highest level of safety for passengers, crew, and the aircraft.

Amaging piloting skills are required to land & take off of any widebody planes on this tricky airport. Hats off to all pilots for ferrying passenger to & from this airport.
Awesome capture and even better pilot skills for all the pilots qualified to fly into Paro. Can't imagine the number of GPWS that went off while making the turns back to the runway!!!

That A320 must be having the time of its life. It's as close to flying like a jet fighter as it'll ever get.

I needed to fully read the title to understand why that was a touch&go. because that was a near perfect landing.

Touch&Go was most appropriate description. The aeroplane did not land. It just touched the tarmac & took off. In Australia we call it “kiss & go”.

For the question. I myself am from Bhutan and of course I know everything about planes. So you see Paro international airports runway is really short so the plane needs to touch down fast enough to be able to apply reverse thrust (a system which helps the plane slow down). The pilot here made an amazing approach but couldn’t get the plane altitude level right which made him land the plane a quarter in front of the original landing area, the plane was too quick and runway space was running out so he decided to take off for a go around and make a second landing attempt. Thank me later.

@@namkhylwangchuk lol that has nothing to do with what happened, these touch and go are part of training. These were NEVER meant to be full stop landings.

Awesome piloting skills la captain! Btw how often do these base checks take place and how much does it cost the airlines?

Whenever there is a command upgrade requirements from the company. May be one or two upgrades in few years as per the requirements. Just the price of the fuel and some wear and tear on the tires. I would say USD2500 for an hour of training.
What the ………
they build the wrong direction runway
