This is great. Thank you so much for giving us an optimistic rap on the most interesting and actually rather elegant flying tiger of the trees: the Toucan. I will add again the Toucan beak: the middle curvaceous, slightly down-pointing variation is the ideal shape for smart missiles; much better than any war missiles flying today, although some would make the argument that hyper-ballistic speed makes aero-dynamic physics and maneuverability irrelevant. This would be incorrect; such details matter, and indeed are not details but give superior performance. That said, regarding war tech, we must remember destruction is destruction: a war can be won and wealth and life destroyed with machetes if necessary. But the far greater good and gain is when we create and protect human and economic wealth in an area and leave it undisturbed to advance and enrich. We should be like the Roman Emperor Trajan, keeping and empowering an American military to fear; but using it sparingly only on important points about American territory, true alliances and deep socio-economic interests. War is destructive and perpetuates primitivity; Today the world threatens to fall into world war because certain powers including our America won't accept a multi-polar world with multi-culturality and real dispersed power; although it should be noted that China and Russia also behave abhorrently at times; for instance the Chinese refusing even vegetables to their 'quarantined' afflicted comrades. A comrade in need is a comrade indeed.

It's always fascinating to me when a population's limiting factor is not predators. It always gives me perspective that there is more to species stability than just who eats what.

They nostrils ('nares' in the bird world) on the edge of their bills (towards the head) and face backwards - that way they don't fill up with fruit juice while the toucan is beak deep in a juicy fruit 😉

Many thanks for the info. First of al, I'm a bit in love with the Toco Toucans. Example of a modern age image in the Netherlands. www.valk.com/en and look at the top left logo. (disclaimer I'm not linked to the van der Valk family end/or busininess other than I regularly stay at their hotels with my Valk Exclusive membership, which is free by the way). They are the largest hospitality chain in the NL (according to wiki) and mostly all hotels are run by offsprings by the founder in 1939 (as far as I know). Valk translated to English is "Falcon". The story is that van der Valk bought Avifauna in Alphen aan den Rijn, NL (kind of bird zoo with Toco Toucans AND first baby Kiwi's in captivity in Europe in 2018) and an artist painted a big toucan on a wall. Then the family van der Valk decided to use that as a logo (wiki and own research). There are documentaries of the Valk family on KZread (in Dutch).
