I always love it when you go to pick up a bomb flower and Yunobo darts in front of you, launching into the bomb flower and causing it to explode in Link's face. But then when you want to smash some rocks he's nowhere to be found. 10/10, super helpful, Yunobo.

oh that has bee a huge thing with fans. Honestly, if nothing else, I would want a higher room count first. After that, more locations to build in, more types of room, colors, more customization. When this game came out my friends couldn't understand why I said that BotW and TotK have very different combat styles, but "Fuse Faff" explains it really well. I loved how in BotW I could start combat with only one or two weapons and then pick up the weapons of my defeated foes and keep swinging. Combat never slowed or stopped and large mob pulls were extremely satisfying because you would adapt fighting your enemies to the weapons they dropped for you. In TotK you now need to menu manage your weapons and you can't just keep fighting mobs after picking up their weapons because so much of the damage and durability comes from fuses. Occasionally enemies do have fused weapons, but the joy of the chaos from BotW is gone.

I remember talking up one of the final bosses to my buddy. For me, I went when things were still a little challenging. I actually died once before winning. Then I watched him play on his game, and it was like watching a match of Wii Tennis. He just walked up to the boss and kept swinging because he had so much health and armor after a more collectivist run. I wanted to weep.

  • @MarilynMonRover

    @MarilynMonRover

    10 ай бұрын

TOTK just ramps it up to 11 for most though. BOTW had an issue with collecting star fragments, an issue which TOTK seems to handle much better, but farming dragon parts in BOTW was way less trouble since the dragons were on more of a time-of-day structure rather than a real-time limitation... it was so easy to set up a routine in BOTW where you could farm all three dragons in sequence. I would hit the fire dragon first, swoop on over to the jungle for the lightning dragon, and then had my medallion set up on the hill for ol' frosty the snowdragon. Some things in TOTK are just ridiculously rare now for no reason whatsoever except to artificially extend gameplay time and make you feel less foolish for shelling out $70 (which backfired for me, tbh)... voltfin trout used to be pretty common, now they only appear in like 2 places in schools of up to 5 if you're lucky... stealthfin trout were all over the place in the waters outside of the Korok forest, and now they're in one tiny school near the military base... hearty truffles and the similar fishes are now super rare... like wtf Nintendo, not only did you artificially inflate gameplay time in general but you also artificially inflated useful resource gathering time and in doing so artificially inflated the difficulty level. Farming Zonaite is honestly the least grindy part since yeah, it's so readily available, especially if you make it a habit of hunting Frox monsters, as there's always an outcrop of Zonaite nearby in addition to all the parts you get from taking down those things (which, imo, is the best new boss fight in the game, even if just for the horror-themed fight music)... not to mention the dozens of enemy camps where all they do is whack away at Zonaite ores. Zonaite... absolutely not a problem. Everything else....... Nintendo just hates you.

Can we add the map to this list? There aren't enough stickers to cover everything I want to mark. I also wish you could have a check mark, sort of toggled, so that you can know you've defeated an enemy without having to encounter it again and see the star next to its HP. AND A FILTER. PLEASE, A FILTER. If I'm trying to hunt Hinox and I know which sticker I gave it, why can't I just filter for those to be marked? And why can't we change the colors? It's really irritating imo. I'd also love if we could zoom the map in just one more notch. It would help when you're trying to see beyond the stickers.

    1) You missed my biggest complaint about the Sages; that they will attack monsters even if you don't want them to. Like if you are doing a rock octorok repair run. Or trying to pull a Fire Keese down to start a grass fire so you can cook something. You always have to banish the Sages, so they don't kill the monster you need alive. 2) Less of an issue for me. The last 20 builds are stored in Autobuild and if it really matters you can favorite it. That said, there are too few favorites and I don't like that you can't name them. 3) I didn't really notice it when I was playing. But being able to quick fuse melee weapons and shields like you can arrows would be handy. That said, I usually fused my favorite items well in advance and kept repairing them, so it was also less of an issue from that respect. 4) Completely disagree here. First, building fun things to throw the monsters around was always fun and if your aim is good, water is faster than every weapon. Second, using the spectator box to farm arenas, and laser cyclone for larger enemies was still faster and easier than even a Gerudo Scimitar with a Lionel part. (and the Master Sword? It's freaking weak compared to Gerudo or Royal weapons) 5) Yes. So much yes. So tedious to have to assemble the parts individually and cook one at a time. Related, there is no point in the special meals, because a steak and a heart bonus item restores the whole health bar. Oh, an apple pie? Nah, raw meat plus hearty truffle is simpler to cook and restores more. 6) I don't mind farming. Also zoanite and zonai charges are nothing. The Lionel parts to upgrade your armor, that was the farming that bugged me. 7) The Master Sword. As noted above, it is weak. There are too many weapons that are so much stronger. Especially considering the whole story of the game. 8) All the little interaction things the game missed. Particularly with Purah. You reach a certain point in the game, and Purah 'reveals' something to you. But if you already found that, there is a reaction and she is surprised. But those events are far too few. For example, if you complete the tears quest early, you talk to Purah and the sages and they are like 'hmm, I wonder what is going on', and you already know, but the game just bypasses that. 9) Link's house. Interesting, but far too limited. I wanted to build a bigger house. I wanted more, different pieces. I wanted doors, walls, halls. I wanted to be able to customize colors. Maybe add furniture.

Honestly my biggest gripe is how there’s barely any connection to botw. All the guardian corpses have vanished, barely anyone recognises you, there’s no sign of the Devine beasts or much mention of the champions and where is my boy Kas?? I know it’s meant to be open to new players but they really missed an opportunity to make it feel cohesive in the story and world. I read a comment once about how cool it would’ve been to come across the Devine beasts in the underworld, swallowed up by the chasms and gloom and I thought that was such a creepy and cool idea. Still love the game, just wished they’d made it more a sequel and not an AU.

Storytelling through teardrops. Part of the negatives of it being open world is that the storytelling is really inconsistent. There’s very little feeling of there being any high stakes when you’re attaching a korok to a rocket prime rib and firing them straight at a lionel.

For me, it kinda feels like the Depths justifies itself by being full of stuff to farm. The devs decided that it was going to be the same size as the surface, but there was no way for them to make it as content-dense. They had to do something else, which means in effect it's a big open space full of nothing and vast stretches of the same visuals over and over, but it's 'engaging' because there are lots of bomb flowers strewn around and Zonaite to mine, so you feel like you're collecting useful stuff and progressing. Weapon guys are also the only source of pristine weapons, which makes the depths the place to be if you want to stock up on weapons and/or power up. It creates a contrast to the surface, in that they sorta removed useful stuff from the surface and transplanted it into the depths instead. The surface gameplay loop will give you nothing but decayed weapons, and traversal eats into your Zonaite reserves so you eventually have to stop and "switch" to the depths. In a way, it's well-designed because you have two co-dependent back-and-forth zones to flipflop between, which keeps things interesting and changes up what you're doing (i.e. the surface and depths feel mutually distinct in the ways you engage with them) but it's also gripeworthy because you can't help but feel that the surface is where all of the fun stuff happens and the depths is where you're obligated to go when you need to stock up. Also, I have the worst video saved on my switch. I spot a bomb flower in the depths, and just as I run over to grab it Yunobo darts in front of me, then decides that it's a great idea to launch himself at it, then I blow up and die. Just painful.

Love this game a lot and although I do gripe about some of the things you mention I still can't put it down and play smth else until all is done to 100%. Mages are annoying sometimes but it seems that they are intentionally harder to use as a nerf, so player doesn't become too OP. Despawning constructed objects is admittedly bad (and costly), but zonaite farming never felt ... well... farmy. In the beginning a small farming loop was necessary as one couldn't stray far but a bit later on if one drops in from all the chasm holes on the surface looking for lightroots then looting a nearby mine is a nice extra. The only problem with this game is that many of the mechanics were known from BOTW so we skipped faster to better armor and weapons leaving us less time really fighting for our lives with just 4 hearts and pants of sack cloth.

One thing that helps builds disappearing is slapping Dragon parts into your builds. Builds with dragon parts have a WAY bigger despawn radius, and you can save it to any favorite build for 3 Zonite. It's tough to properly balance the hover bike but most other builds are easier. I also consider Hyrule to have been 'Goombafied' going from BotW to TotK. You just jump on everything you want from above. I much prefer the wide open spaces of BotW that I could slowly pick my way through, turning over every rock and log along the way.

A little tip for despawning builds, dragon horns/scales have a super big despawn radius and can be replicated with autobuild. So build a hoverbike, glue a dragon piece to it, save it as a build, take back the dragon piece, and then use autobuild. It'll create a bike that won't despawn for unless you run a whole region away.

You nailed all my gripes but I also hate that when you're selecting something to fuse in the quick menu, it doesn't tell you what the damage additive will be. So when you're frantically trying to pick an item in battle to shoot or drop for your sword, the damage or defense it adds isn't shown unless you're in the full pause menu, and that really breaks the flow of the game and battles. I know you can sort by highest but sometimes I'm trying to make a "medium" sword for smaller enemies, and save all my good parts for the stockpiles of endless demand from the armor upgrade parts. Speaking of which...Lizalfos tails. I'll kill 10 and get maybe 1 tail and then i gotta wait for the next blood moon or spend hours farming up and down the canyons. I still need like 35 tails to finish what I have now and I'm sure there's armors I still haven't found that'll probably need them since everything else does. It's so frustrating because I have 250 Ice Lizalfos horns, but only like 14 tails. An exaggeration but, not that much of one. And another note on farming for your armors. Once you level up, what becomes more rare is basic monster parts. Like red bokoblins, blue lizalfos, etc. Everything is black and silver after a certain point and finding the mid range enemies becomes the real hunt. I have a surplus of Silver parts but I need the early stage enemies in bulk and there's usually only one in each group now. The hardest one was when you need Lynel parts for the barbarian set. By the time I found that suit and started upgrading, *all* the Lynel's were silver except 2 which I think only continue spawning as Blue and white maned Lynel's for this exact reason. But, it still means i'm farming the same 2 creatures every blood moon for a while. And I'm stuck on one armor because it needs parts from one of the earlier soldier constructs, but I can't find one anywhere now. Every spot I come across some they're all level IV robots and like one level 1 bot. And of course the flying Gibdo wings only spawn in a couple small areas if you finish the Garudo quest before farming them for the wingsuit. So the game became very farmy if you're a completionist. I'm *still* chipping away at it, haven't beaten the game. Lastly another reason the companions are annoying is I constantly try to use the Rock Octorok trick to repair my weapons. Let them suck up a dropped weapon, and they'll spit it back at you, completely repaired and with new enchantments/perks for those who don't know - can only be done once a blood moon for each octorok. But if you forget to turn your companions off when you find one, *woosh* an arrow flies by your head and bursts your balloon. Man, i feel like i've needed to vent about this for a while, but I also love the game so I didn't wanna poo on it. Thanks for finally opening that door.

We still can't pick stuff up while riding horses. You always need to hop off, pick stuff and then hop back on again which means if there's multiple objects that need picking up in quick succession, it turns in to this frustrating process of hopping off and on again. It got to the point where I would either not stop to pick stuff up or not use horses at all in certain areas. What makes it worse is that this was also a problem in the first game and the fact that in Elden Ring, you can pick stuff up while riding Torrent.

regarding the whole zonaite farming, you really don't need to "farm". You just need to explore the map and pick up every single thing you find, which was already standard open world game procedure long before Breath of the Wild. Between the underground bosses and the Yiga, plus stopping at a zonaite forge when you encounter one, you get all the cristallized zonaite you need to upgrade your battery to the max, and it just happens organically while playing the rest of the game. It's only if you set your objective as "I need to get zonaite so I can upgrade my battery enough to use that hoverbike I saw people on internet making" that you get stuck in a farming loop ...

And almost everyone I've talked to about it was just as frustrated with it as I was and ended up just making flying machines to bypass the majority of the puzzling because it was made so poorly. Not to mention, Yunobo's powers were hard to control and point, and his repetitive dialogue made zero sense in the context of the scenario. I was so tired of hearing him yell out "you never should have come here" every time I hopped into a cart. Not to mention, I had already finished the tears questline by the point I got to that temple, so I was just rolling my eyes at every scene where he was chasing after the very obvious not-Zelda Zelda.

The Hover Bike [or as I was calling it The Air Scooter] will work just fine unless you have a less then perfect controller then well its back to being Engineer Simulator because it magically don't work and the more perfect you make it the less it works hence I only use Zonai Devices only when I don't have a choice and its something that I can use Auto Build from Scema Stones for! I know the intention was so that you could do them in any order and still get the gist of the story, but it got repetitive. I also think they should have made the dragon’s tears/geoglyph quest more linear because the story can get spoiled for you really quick if you go out of order on those.

My main two gripes for this game are: 1) I really, really wish there was the ability to brake your builds. Like, with the hoverbike literally everyone made, if you had the ability to brake and gently set it down rather than let go of the steering column and have it yeet itself (and potentially yourself) into the void, that would have been great (also, fewer wasted materials). Maybe make a separate item, or add the function to the steering column itself. 2) The "throw item" function seems really clunky. I feel like you should just be able to go into the item menu and be able to ready a throw from there, rather than having to start the whole process by lifting your WEAPON to throw that, THEN go into the item menu.

I definitely found myself not using my horse because inevitably, I'll come across a sheer cliff face (or even a slight one) that I want to climb, but doing so means I have to leave my horse behind. So I just left them at the stables

Having to "farm" the dragons for materials to upgrade some of the armour sets was another royal PIA. If you're not in the right place at the right time, it's a big ol' "welp, guess I'll build a campfire..."

This video feels like a bonus Show of The Weekend. 😁 Also, loving Ellen's t-shirt - 'Good Enough' is one of my favourite Evanescence songs, thought not sure if it's anything to do with it. 😛

Mean if we can hold a button to throw and item and then press another button to switch to a version of a submenu for the other button we are holding then why can’t they implement a way to hold the button for attack and then interrupt a charged stamina wheel to activate with a dpad button one of the four sages, if you pick rinu it automatically draws out your bow you have equipped, if you’re holding the y button for example and then pressed a dpad button then that could have worked since Y is only used for sorting menus

What bothers me personally most about the sages is Riju, who has a ranged ability and has her scimitars, so she constantly fights next to the thing I'd like to shoot with my bow for her ability.

I miss the one button press champions. Now, I gotta chase the sages. Tulin and Mineru are dope af though. Everyone knows why for Tulin, but Mineru is a full blown mech that abuses the power of fuse in the best way! 😍👍🏻

If you want to avoid status meals, just mix together 2 incrediences with different status. So like swim speed + cold resistance. And it'll end up cancelling each other, becoming a pure heal.

2 more gripes I have that weren't mentioned in the video: Swapping armor for various occasions is tedious. It would be nice if there was some way to do it automatically, or at the very least, "Equip all of this set". The enemy damage very quickly turns the game into "Tears of the One-Shot-dom". I was even focusing health upgrades this time, but it felt like it didn't matter, one hit and I'm dead.
