hellatze three kingdoms period is known as the end of the East Han dynasty. West Han dynasty was the one before this era. At the end of the West Han dynasty, there was a warlord called Wang Mang. He was trying to seize the imperial seal from this 2years old baby emperor and his mother. They could not resist this powerful warlord. So emperor's mother just throw the seal on the ground to show her anger. Which causes one corner of the seal broken(the seal was made out of a huge piece of white jade called He Shi Bi, which itself was another legend, you can look it up on Wikipedia) . This powerful warlord Wang Mang later fixed the empireal seal with gold. By the way, the seal was lost later on in the history. Where this seal was afterward is considered one of the biggest mystery in Chinese history.

Sun Jian, one of the only guys of RotK who was more badass in history than he was in the book. Sun Jian was pretty much the only warlord who actually fought Dong Zhuo and he beat both Hua Xiong and Lu Bu - Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Liu Bei weren't even there lmao.

While the campaign map looks beautiful I think my favourite thing about 3K so far is the soundtrack. It’s so bloody epic!! I’m on the edge of my seat ready to go to War every time I hear it!

Literally tears in my eyes. I personally come from the Sun Wu area, the basic foundation of my hometown is laid and developed by Sun Jian and his two sons(mainly by Sun Quan). Respect and gratitude to my old king!

0:41 dam CA you guys really gave it your all for Three Kingdoms! Guys you see how the Imperial Seal of China has a gold corner in the trailer? This was because when the Han dynasty was being usurped by an outsider (before the 3K era), the empress tried to smash the seal and chipped off a corner. The usurper, Wang Mang, had the corner restored with gold. What a simple but brilliant piece of detail!

He didn't lose the Imperial Seal to Yuan Shu. Sun Ce, Sun Jian's eldest son, used the seal to barter for his freedom and a large enough army to take Wu from the southern warlords and pirates. Yuan Shu was stupid and used the seal to declare himself Empire of Zhong

JanusSeverian Should be noted the whole Sun Ce bartering the seal for armies thing is a Romance legend. Historically Sun Jian gave the seal to Yuan Shu once he found it and later died fighting for him.

It fit the tradition of that time though. There were old tales of former Kings using the Seal to "rightfully" claim the dragon throne (after they defeated all their opponents, of course), so yeah, holing on to the Imperial Seal was a great opportunity. Too bad the info got leak out too early before Jian could take full advantage of it.

The story of the video happened when Sun Jian's army captured the Capital Luoyang as the pioneer of the Anti Dong Zhuo Coalition while Dong Zhuo burned the Luoyang city and fled to Changan, kidnapping the emperor and the whole court. In the city Sun Jian found the imperial jade seal which was built during Qin Dynasty in 221 B.C., 400 years ago, which had always been the symbol of imperial power. Soon after Luoyang fell the coalition dissolved due to the conflicts among warlords. The lyric of the song in the video is the first paragraph (上阕) of a Linjiangxian 临江仙 by Yang Shen 杨慎 of Ming Dynasty. 临江仙 滚滚长江东逝水，浪花淘尽英雄。是非成败转头空。青山依旧在，几度夕阳红。 白发渔樵江渚上，惯看秋月春风。一壶浊酒喜相逢。古今多少事，都付笑谈中。 Lingjiangxian (name of the tunes to which the Ci poems are composed) The roaring Yangtze flows ever eastward, Its waves scouring away all heroes. Ya if it was only the fantasy stuff I think I would immediately pass on it and not give it a purchase. But since there is a historical mode I'll watch early access and probably wait till after release to see how the historical plays out or if it's really shallow like Thrones.

DB4331 exactly for me the history behind the games drives the story being told on grand campaign. It allows the attachment to certain historical generals such as Hannibal or legions like the 10th. Multiplayer you can see how certain powerhouses to face off that never met on the battlefield I just didnt get the same feeling with warhammer

Sun Jian is a great example of the opportunistic leader who nobody wants or needs, but are sadly helpless to resist as he takes advantage of the turmoil to build a massive power base for himself and his family. Like Napoleon Bonaparte, all Sun Jian has is his name and very little else, but rises to power through guile, determination, and a little luck. We admire Sun Juan’s ambition, but know that he is not the ultimate solution for the nations ills. He’s merely a consequence of the incompetencies of whoever was the previous administration, government, or the current political group that held power before him.

Anybody else think that the Starks from Game of Thrones were based on The Sun family from the Three Kingdoms era? Theres a lot of similarities, they both hold family and honour in high esteem, they both lose their family leaders to betrayals, and they are related to the first men of their nation (Game of Thrones: Starks from The "North", Three Kingdoms: Suns from The "South")

make sense to if uses ROTK logic, the father get set up to death by Yuan Shu, the first Son Sun Ce who trying to come back almost success yet get killed by enemy trap(not as tragic as red wedding tho) and Sun Ce little brother Quan became ruler and take over entire southern of chinese.and create Sun dynasty(bran stark that became king of 6 kingdom), if only Sun Ren didnt get tricked by Wu and still stay to Liu Bei, she literally can be empress of Shu Han along with Liu Bei.

Those art elements like falling peach petals and dropping willow shoots in a dim background REALLY GET ME!!!!! It remains me of the traditional artistic conception in the ancient Chinese poems! Love the work you spend on those details!!! I am really into it!!!!

Growing up, my brother, my father and I used to play RTK on the SNES. I have so many great memories. My brother would play as Cao Cao, my dad as Liu Bei, and since I was the youngest they thought I had the worst kingdom which was Wu. Boy did I surprise them with Zhou Yu and Sun Ce among others.

What an amazing setting, beautiful map and epic music! I can't wait to see more

I really dig the OST. I hope we'll get so much more vocals in background music. The very, very few times Warhammer 2 has any it's always goosebumps chilling. Plus I love the cartoonish colors.

I think a chinese setting has sooo much potential for total war. I'm hoping for a more "historical" dlc, maybe warring states period or Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. EDIT: Yup, I realised now there will be a classic mode. Win-win for me.

It really does feel like the world is out to get you when you have it. It feels like a boon as well as a curse.

This video should stop after a few seconds and give the event "declawing the tiger" given that Sun Jian always gets himself killed.

“滚滚长江东逝水 浪花淘尽英雄 是非成败转头空 青山依旧在 几度夕阳红” The song is actually the beginning of a poem created by Yang Shen in Ming Dynasty to express his thought about three kingdoms'history，and used as the opening song of《Romance of the Three Kingdoms》,a well-known TV series in 1994.This series has been a legend to tell everyone about history(recreated in some ways) of three kingdoms. Glad to see CA study a lot about the culture beneath history!

the BGM is a famous Chinese ancient poetry 临江仙·滚滚长江东逝水 【作者】杨慎 【朝代】明 滚滚长江东逝水，浪花淘尽英雄。 是非成败转头空。 青山依旧在，几度夕阳红。 白发渔樵江渚上，惯看秋月春风。 一壶浊酒喜相逢。 古今多少事，都付笑谈中。 it means that mountains and rivers both same as thousands of years ago ,but the great heroes who were living in past have disappeared in the years. Time will kill everything,but history。

Where those supply lines I saw? Could this be a possibility to take out your enemies supply lines if you sally out when under siege and destroying it then means they lose a lot of men due to attrion each turn and it increases the turns needed for the settlement to surrender?

The Sun clan has always been interesting in my opinion. They are one of the most influential Clan in all of Chinese History; from Sun Tzu, to Sun Jian & Sun Quan, and then Sun Zhongshan (or Sun Yat-sen). I admire them to be somewhat of a grand-family of Pioneers

Yes sun yat sen is not related to sun tzu, sun Jian, and sun quan. Sun jian and sun quan are related to sun tzu

Provocateur if you mean at 0:45 that's the Huang He river, which has always naturally been that colour in real life because of Loess rocks in the area.

Sooooo excited for this! As much as I would love a medieval 3 I'm glad they finally got to ancient China... Looks like I need to start building my new desktop.

Looks and sounds fantastic! I can't wait!

Looks like the Tiger is tired of crouching.

I just hope the settlement building upgrades are more like med 2. I love tw warhammer but I miss the in depth city management of med 2.

X Ronixx X it has its faws but it could be considered my favourite. I don't think they should make med 3 yet. I want that game to be near perfect when they do make it and CA still have not gotten anywhere near that yet. Who knows 3 kingdoms might be that game but I doubt it

I was skeptical at first sight but now seeing more of these trailers I'm starting to get hyped!

The poem used in the BGM here is also used as the opening song for the ROTK 1994 series. Great poem.
