    Love Madagascar's enthusiasm for rugby. It is just as popular there as it is in New Zealand.

    American football teams use Haka to get pumped up before their matches. US Army and Navy use it for similar reasons but also to bond. And it is certainly pleasant to see other countries endorsing the concept, which is a tremendous achievement for the Maori culture. One thing you should know, war dances existed in Africa thousands of years before New Zealand. I say Bravo Madagascar and hopefully you grow into a good Rugby nation..

    u guys do know that madagascans didnt make this vid and probably call their war dance something else right it was the poms who made this vid that associated a pre match war dance with the haka and used that term because it is well known in the rugby community.

    No they wouldn't, Haka is ONLY Maori. It was called Haka before the Europeans got here and just like Tonga has the Sipi Tau, Samoa has the Siva Tau and Fiji has the Cibi. Madagascar probably has a name for theirs and anybody saying otherwise is disrespecting both cultures.

    This war dance is not ridiculous at all, I've heard of people who've seen the new zealand haka for the first time calling it ridiculous only because how different it may seem to their culture.

  • @MGoose66
    @MGoose6612 жыл бұрын

    I agree with your argument here, but a quick survey among the culturally ignorant in the office here, would seem to indicate that to some at least, "a Haka is a war dance done by sports teams before matches". Maybe the name will become synonymous with such activity - something for Maoris to be proud of!

  • @Island3r
    @Island3r12 жыл бұрын

    yup....don't misuse the term.

  • @MGoose66
    @MGoose6612 жыл бұрын

    It may be a NZ word and NZ tradition,, but descriptive language from many cultures slips into English and not much can be done to protect the origin of the definition. Champagne is a place in France where they make a bubbly white wine - lots of people have copied this or make a similar product, but they don't call it "bubbly white wine", they call it Champagne. If it looks like Champagne and tastes like Champagne... NZ can't claim exclusive use of this term. Don't speak English then?

  • @MGoose66
    @MGoose6612 жыл бұрын

    Why should "Haka" only be from NZ? Is Ballet only only from Italy? Can only the French drink Champane? Is Rugby only for the English? If it looks like a Haka...

    I agree Haka is a word of Maori origin, but it's in my English dictionary! What right do Maori's have to claim exclusive use of a term when they freely use English terminology in their own language? I accept "Champagne" is protected by some pretty fierce trade labeling rules in many countries, but in normal conversation in the US, AUS and NZ, "Champagne" is not so specific. I also accept that if the Wallabies or Scots did a traditional/native war dance at a test, they would not call it a Haka.

    You should thank God i didnt see your comment 6 years ago We respect the haka wether its bullshit or not im from Madagascar myself and if we translate every single words that has been shouted and spoken here everything is quite meaningful " Madagascar ready " and thn " slay the bad souls " I have no clue why'd you find this haka bullshit , do you even have the balls to stand on the pitch facing players who are like 2 times your size ? They did it without excuses and you must respect the team and its haka for that and get your facts right before spreading to the whole world that we re mixed race obscure hybrid.
