I love seeing the craftsmanship of building needed parts! E30s are not too common in my area of the US. They can be found but expensive for a nice example. They are my favorites (except for the 2002 tt models)

Is E30 expensive in the US? Is it because the car is old so the tax is expensive? agree, the E30 is the favorite car of many people around the world

Where I live tax is 6.6% of the selling price for used cars. I would expect to pay $15,000 (or higher) for a good example. A complete re-spray (like your shop did) would be in the $15,000 range.

Yes the average repair shop in my area is about $100 an hour (not including parts)!! Paint & body work also have very expensive costs due related to hazardous material handling (paint, clear...). The E30 cars are also pretty rare where I live. Most people in the US would rather buy a new car than preserve the "old" ones unfortunately. There is also the issue of salting the roads for snow which rust out cars really quickly. @@kiatmotor_
