Good video had a feeling this was how you felt about most of them. I've got the cyclo trainer 2 coming I know you aren't high on it but I've got to give it a go! I bought nearly every attachment when purchasing the total gym. Ironically after watching you and seeing all the hacks rarely using them to be honest. Doing pull ups holding onto the tower and inverted presses off the legs like Mac lol.. I will start using them more hopefully soon. Really like the dip one!

7:40 Just some feedback on the wing attachment. My used XL came with one. The booklet shows an exercise called the Leg Pull. You attach the wing attachment near the tower with the curved part facing up and away from you. Then you hook your feet in the curved part, rest your heels on the foam rollers, and pull your body towards the tower with your legs. Really works the legs, and I think it would be difficult to copy this exercise by other means. The booklet says that with this Leg Pull exercise, and an arm pullover, 80% of the major muscle groups are exercised.

Another helpful video👍🏻! And I‘m happy I already have my CT2 otherwise I then might not had imported it 😂. Our local distributor over here doesn‘t sell it because he thinks it‘s not effective. That made me even more curious about it 😂. And yes compared to other possibilities and the costs you don‘t need it and can use different stuff - But I love it and use it on my way to “age healthy“, and as bad knees are within my family, I even use it more 😂 (but was on the highest level quite soon). And I will keep it as probably noone else in Germany would be willing to pay what I paid for it, not that I wanted to get rid of it anyway.

I really like the bench press exercise using the weight bar against the squat stand. I would love to have a stand that allows you to secure the weight bar in place. I always have a feeling that the bar is going to slip away from me. Just something that i wish existed is some sort of clamp or brace, pin..etc. to assure me the bar won't slip away from me. I know it's probably wishful thinking. I think an attachment for that would be great , but i doubt many people know of that particular exercise. I'd pay your neighbor Mac to make such a device if he knew how to make something such as that. Great review of the attachments!

I do use the 2 wings for hamstrings and military press. XL squat is great. I use the ab crunch for oblique and abs. Years ago I had a xls with dip and could not use it. I do like the weight bar for placing my feet and looping bands. Pilates is cool for tricep presses and calf raises but not necessary,

So with the Huck handles. The metal is really thick, great quality, the slant gets in the way sometimes, but they works really well for most exercises. The slant however puts the cable back in line with the direction of pulleys, which makes it easier on my elbows.

I really like the dip bars, even though I don't leave them on unless I'm going to use them. I do dips on a parallel dip station, but I can add to the volume with the dip bars on the TG. But I'm short, so maybe that's why they work for me. I do them face up, with a slight hollow position, so they feel like BW dips.

Enjoyed the video - always interested in the different attachments out there, since they can keep things more interesting. I’ll toss my opinions on a few of them out into the void, since the platform to do so has been provided: I agree 100% with the swivel/carabiner setup. I have a few sets of those now and I would not want to go back! If I could buy only one attachment (well, technically 2 with the box of carabiners added in), it would be this setup. Bummer about the chrome handles. I have been using those almost exclusively and I hope that I get a few years out of them. If not, then I’ll try out the Huck products version. I like the “C” shape of the TG handles a little better because you can easily swivel your grip to the most comfortable position, which keeps the bar out of the way of your wrists. Just personal preference. I would love the press-up bars, but the wobble is super annoying and gets progressively worse over time, even with a few attempts at modification. I just do seated overhead presses instead now (with the carabiner/swivel extension helping out!). It’s a shame, but it seems to me that all of the rail attachments seem to wobble to some extent or another. Maybe someday they’ll address it, but I won’t hold my breath. I bought the Angles 90 handles. Do you use an extension with those? My face comes unnervingly close to the tower during pull-ups. Maybe I’ll never hit, but it is distracting! I thought maybe about trying to extend them somehow. Anyway, those are my top comments, the rest would just be echoing the video for the most part. Thanks again for all the TG content!

I would have added the cables as an upgrade. After about 3 years on my fit the cable connected to the eyelet which connects the handle let go. about 2 years were without the swivel but it showed no wear when it let go...I was facing the post and fell backwards to the large squat stand which broke my fall. I had a new cable stored that I included with an order from Hucks.

Mike, this was a timely video on what attachments are needed to use a sliding bench trainer. I am of the opinion that not ALL attachments on the sliding bench trainer market are necessary as your channel has shown . A few will do you well to optimize your workouts. Total Gym puts out a lot of attachments and see that two to four are valid. The large leg press is one the toe bar/squat stand is another the ab crunch attachment is my third and the weight bar is the fourth. I could see Total Gym issuing a rebuttal to your video, stating their attachments are not for bodybuilding of heavy duty work loads. But if you are in the fitness industry, let’s face it your products are going to be pushed to the limits and rightfully so. I liked that you pointed out the pull up bar on the ProForm Ultimate Bodyworks is made stronger (11 gauge steel) and will last a long time compared to the Total Gym offering. And It was nice to hear GR8FLEX was making a better squat stand for their unit. If only ProForm made a bigger squat stand and sold it as an aftermarket product I believe demand would be very high based on the price point for the sliding bench unit. In any event, this was a great video and I appreciate your honesty on the product featured. When you a moment please feature the “Mack Riser” as I would like to see how that works with all your sliding bench trainer.

In reference to your comment on the ab crunch accessory not being the best fit for the Apex models I have found that I can replicate the same movement with the wing attachments included with the Apex G3 and G5. I simply rest my forearms and elbows on the padded lower portion and holding onto the rails with my hands. I just don't tuck my knees all the way up to avoid getting my hands caught under the rollers.

I've been using the XLS I picked up about 6 months ago alongside regular weight training and I've already had to replace the wheels (though they may already have been damaged) and I noticed the pilates squat stand is now showing signs of starting to bend. Granted I've been loading it with weights (still a good amount below its max capacity and since the wheel breakage I'm not doing it much) and using a selection of strong resistance bands on it so like you I'm probably pushing it beyond its intended use, however I'm only 86kg/190lbs and I'm only loading it enough to make single leg exercises hard. It's a bit of a shame that there isn't a more rugged version of the TG, at least in the obvious components like wheels, leg attachments. The GTS and Encompass might be, but aren't being marketed as such and at their price point I'm not volunteering to test their breakage limit, especially as their pricing has them at functional trainer level. I still enjoy upper body stuff on the machine though for sure and for that I do use the wing attachment though pretty much solely for shoulder presses.

I have the paperwork that the original owner got and it cost well over $1000 I paid $200 for it and he threw in 60 lbs of standard steel weights. In my backyard I have a soloflex I still use with the leg ext/curl that I paid $40 for I also have the 5-90 lb Powerblock dumbells with stand a homemade platform for flatbands with wodfittr bands and J hooks and I belong to a gym and have many bodylastics and lifeline USA tube bands and bullworkers and powertwisters so I know how equipment can pile up. My main problem is keeping a good diet and the fact that I'm now in my 60's but I still use most of my equipment and am motivated to continue working out. It seems like you are "making do" with a total gym when in fact a conventional system compromised of a squat stand, pulldown and row pully system and what not might be better suited for your style of exercise. I had a really useful one at one time but at that time the space i had available was too narrow. It had a pully system that used the same plates as the bars, a bench that could be moved for squats, a leg attachment with isn't very useful on those types of machines, i never used it. I wound up selling it. Then i went and got old and arthritic and couldn't do a lot of exercises that locked your joints in an arc. I found that the "free motion fitness" machines at the way were useful because it utilized cables which allowed my joints to move freely. I've recently reclaimed a spare room and am able finally to have all the things I need in one spot. I could have had that weight system if I had a young skeleton, but decided on a cheap barbell to do deadlifts which are beneficial for my back. That led me to the total gym. I got an apex and love it! I also have the balance stuff i used for physical therapy. If I was a young strapping man that lifted heavy i would mostly use what I had before, that rack with pullys bench and squat rack. Maybe use a total gym for core stuff. I'm not a young strapping man though, just an older woman who destroyed her body riding road bikes in days gone by. The riding was awesome, the inevitable wrecks not so much. I probably should not have done that. Oh well, at least I've found a way to exercise again without destroying what's left of my cartilage.
