Total Cost to Convert Your Boat to a Commercial Fishing Boat! (Complete List of Items, Prices, Etc.)
Have you ever wondered what it would take to convert your boat to a commercial fishing boat so you could sell your tuna, mahi mahi, and other types of fish? Looking to sell those monster Bluefin tuna but not sure what to expect? In this video, we break down the journey we went through and the costs for each item. For example:
-How much does a life raft cost (new and used)?
-How much do survival (immersion) suits cost and how many do you need?
-How much do commercial fishing licenses cost?
-How much does a Captains License cost to get?
-How much do offshore life preservers cost?
In all, you'll find out how we spent over $16,000 to get our boat to a point where we were ready to go commercial offshore fishing, not including the costs of rods, reels, and all the other essentials you need to catch the big ones.

Excellent addition Bob, so glad you bring that one up. We actually have another class for that scheduled soon. And yes, hope to meet up in Wanchese!
Great info, there are many owners that are unaware of after cooler maintenance.

For sure William. We actually did do a full video on aftercooler replacement as well. Thanks for stopping by!
You guys are doing great! Excited for the fishing videos this summer. Tautog are biting, are we going to get species specific videos?

Appreciate that Jonathan! Absolutely 💯, lots of species specific once April rolls around. We're chomping at the bit!!
All boats should have a life raft able to fit 2 extra crew then you normally take and 2 extra survival suits regardless of commercial or not

Agreed Sam. Good point.
Can you elaborate on the secondary communication device you showed in the video? It appeared to be a satelite texting device. Also what power backup unit did you go with?
Dont you only need a capt license if you're going to carry paid passengers or your vessel is over 100 tons? Or do you need one for any commercial fishing boat like a 40 footer?
To be honest you should’ve had all that safety equipment anyway if you’re planning to fish offshore. It’s not unique to a “commercial” operation.

True, it's good to have these things as a standard Peter, but as you're well aware, many non-commercial boats don't have a life raft, immersion suits, or some of the other items mentioned . Plus, the point of the video is to help people know what's required to get your commercial fishing license, and their corresponding costs. We would have gotten most of these regardless because we do want to be as safe as possible out there. Tight lines!

Good video, thank you for putting it out, I just picked up a 31 Steiger and I am looking for safety gear I would need for offshore use. Boat is being assembled and should be here by May. Fishing out of New Jersey.
