Nothing to debate about the stoppage once it was on the ground Rodger was going to destroy him it was just going to be a few more seconds. the referee just saved him a little bit of punishment. good fight

He would have finished him, with a sub. Early stoppage, if you don't see it you either have a serious problem or don't really follow mma fights. He didn't lose the ability to defend himself, which is supposed to be the trigger for the stoppage. If he needed that few more seconds to lose his ability to defend himself, the referee should have waited until that moment.

Roger is so patient. Patience is one of the big things that bjj teaches. It doesn't matter how fast you win, as long as you win. Roger is great but I think if he had some explosive moves, it might be something that could benefit his mma style because it is unexpected.

So mc Donald or whomever I don't know mcsweeny ... What a so so striker ... But he wasn't knocked out at all it looked to me like he hurt his KNEE not ankle. I tell ya. I don't want to make fun of the Gracie ... I feel like he did well for Gracie's and I like jiu jitsu and BJJ I just feel like that jiu jitsu is dynamic ... BJJ is great catch is great chin na and original classic is even Aikido ... small circle ... Jiu jitsu .. But BJJ is great no smack or dissing, it's great. He did very well for a Gracie striking great job ... I feel like the mcsweeny was so so ... You? I did not like or dislike the Gracie's opponent was so so. Get don't avoid an opponent in there. His boxing and kick boxing needs alot more work. His very slow and mechanical even in MMA striking. His reflexes are too slow.. Very bad defensive skills. When he gets touched, the shots go straight through him, he cant take shots. Love to see a rematch..

RAD LORD hello 👋 You are right. the Gracies have a lot of haters. And it is for many reasons. Some of them are jerks. Some of them were too cocky. Heck many of them cant even get along with their own family. They were from a time and place were fuding was normal. Some of them were nice people too. So as much as any group of people they certainly had their list of visible flaws. On top of that they were also beating up the toughest guys from various countries around the world. And they were doing it while not being very big. So resentment at both their attitudes and their abilities grew quickly. And then when they finally started to lose and experience some failure some people were elated. But one thing they did which should never be forgotten is bring Gracie Jiu Jitsu to the United States. They dominated every other single form of fighting known at that time that was willing to engage. They allowed the biggest and the baddest -who were willing to actually step in there and prove it- a chance to beat them in their art. Gracie jiu jitsu. And for some considerable time , no one could do it. They changed the face of martial arts and had the courage and ingenuity to do it in a foreign country against much bigger men (no weight classes, with Royce Gracie weighing an unimposing 175lbs). They brought the world the incredible gift of highly evolved combat ready Gracie Jiu Jitsu with thousands of techniques, borrowed from Japan, some created, but all evolved and tested through years of combat long before they hit American soil. They mainstreamed the idea of fighting being more than just boxing on TV. In fact boxing for maybe the first time was seen as utterly inept by a majority of people. It ignored too much. But it wasnt alone. Wrestling also fell. Traditional karate, muay thai, kickboxing, street fighting, weight lifters etc... all tried, and all failed. But time marches on, and everything changes. As fighting moved on and became more of a sport with ‘athletes’ then naturally the evolution of rules and styles became more varied and more about the individual than the art. Each 5 year period it seemed brought a new wave of hybrid styles and athletes learning from and built on the backs of the fighters just a few years behind. Its easy to pick apart those who went before. Probably the easiest thing we can do as humans is to tear down and minimize after time has passed. But that initial art of Gracie Jiu Jitsu, that gift, and the courage it took by Royce and Rorion Gracie will never be forgotten by those who know or have studied their history.

Roger has a long ways to go if he expects to ever compete at a high-level of MMA. Just being really good on the ground isn’t enough. You have to survive long enough to get there, and you have to have the takedowns to make it happen. He did not demonstrate any serious proficiency in either of those things.

Sort of, but if you noticed Roger always gave up the takedown attempt for a knee. I think he was setting him up for the knee and that's why he never did a real fast committed takedown attempt. Think about it, if you're a Gracie, what does everyone expect you to do in a fight? Take the fight to the ground. So what's the best thing to actually do? Fake them out and when they commit hard to the sprawl or other takedown defense knee them in the face.

  • @LionOfKashmir

phoenixamaranth sort of? No. 100% Wrestlers are better at takedowns than BJJ practitioners. BJJ is a ground based martial arts. Wrestling’s whole purpose is to take the other down.

@@LionOfKashmir If all you think is a takedown is a double leg and you ignore how many have bjj backgrounds too. It amazes me how many people watch MIXED martial arts and continually call someone a "wrestler" like they dont have a decade of training in things like bjj too

  • @LionOfKashmir

phoenixamaranth What are you talking about? When in my comment did I say a takedown is only a double leg? Are you seeing things? What kind of wrestling? Greko Roman? Freestyle? Folkstyle? Don’t talk wrestling with me boy. And don’t think I don’t like BJJ, I’m a blue belt in BJJ. But BJJ is not the best for takedowns, in recent times BJJ schools have started to spar standing up as opposed to starting on the ground however. Also no not every wrestler in MMA has a “ decade “ of BJJ. Jon Jones for example was a greko Roman wrestler throughout his childhood and didn’t even have a decade of wrestling when he became champ. Obviously the best “ grappling “ form is wrestling mixed with BJJ but Wrestling is 100x times better for takedowns.
