+Scott Upton A lot of people want to know what they are doing before doing something like a factory restore before just starting to push buttons. A lot of people think their pictures and videos won't be deleted after doing a factory reset. Some people get system restore confused with factory reset. Afterall you didn't know how to restore a Toshiba laptop. So why make the assumption that people know what they are doing while doing a reset.

Weird...I had to try it about 4x before it worked. At first, every time I held the zero down, the computer just beeped and I got nothing but by try 4 it worked. Carefully I followed the instructions of: Turn on, hold zero, see logo, start tapping zero. Like I said..after the fourth try it got me to the Recovery Of Factory Settings screen. Thank you

"RubberWilbur" --- and please bear with me on this -- but first, ==YOUR VIDEO SAVED THE DAY== on my daughter's C55D Toshiba laptop but here is the thing --- I must have tried the power-up and zero key hold-down thing 20 times or more for this model and each and every time it failed and it just went back to the "Windows can not load ... " box ==until== I saw you mention in your video to additionally try ==repeatedly tapping== the zero key after power-up and THAT, and possibly by sheer luck as well, made the laptop go into its recovery mode! ;-) In effect, the ==repeated and rapid tapping of the zero key== after powering-up AND making sure the laptop was AC powered did the trick! So too, on this model Toshiba, when I opted for a fresh factory reset, there are, at least initially, no visible bars or anything else to indicate reset/recovery progress OTHER THAN a small spinning circle icon and the message "please wait" on a full blue background screen but that changes and it moves into another phase, the actual reset mode. I then recall your video where you said that recovery could take up to 30 minutes or more. So I waited exactly 34 minutes and further options came up and I opted to factory reset the laptop to factory new conditions [when that stage is reached, the actual RESET phase, there IS a progress bar that appears and the RESET takes its own sweet time but it's a steady progress by percentage increments!] which of course would take all previous laptop personal files out [but of no great loss] and that option was OK with me ==in exchange for== a factory fresh "out of the box" reset ==and== the full recovery of the built-in 8.1 Windows O/S. Thank you! You saved the day!

Apparently, and noting that there are so many models of Toshiba laptops, I'm guessing that perhaps precise timing has something to do with whether the recovery program comes up or not and the ==only== thing that worked at least on the Toshiba C55D to salvage it was your video comment to additionally try the rapid tapping of the zero key upon power-up. That did it! Thanks again!

Hey RubberWilbur, thanks for the info, but I think I may have a deeper problem coz this sadly isn't working for me. My bad. I tried to run an Acronis Restore of a full image back up from one laptop (Win8) to a brand new laptop (loaded with Win10) and now there's only a black screen with the following words displaying when I power up and try this recovery power up process as well. "No bootable device. Pleased check if the Boot Mode is correct in the BIOS settings. The BIOS settings menu is launched by pressing the [F2] key after you reboot." But pressing the F2 kay also does nothing. Am I stuffed? :-( denwick

Ok so I did a used the recovery disk that came with my Toshiba A215 and now I can't update drive to Services pack 1 & 2 and update internet to update... can you help me with what I did wrong or how to get this fixed, I am so confused please help

I have a major problem can someone please help, I am able to go through the first steps but the screen is blinking so bad as if it had a thousand windows opened and I can not read where to point for my settings. Hi, I have a 10 yr old Toshiba Satellite C650 and it is slow so I would like to restore it back to factory settings. When I press 0 during startup I never get the warning screen. I have a dual boot with Windows 7 and Linux Cinnamon Mint 18.1 and the screen that comes up is one that offers me to log on to Linux, a memory test, Windows 7 or Windows recovery environment, none of which allows me to go further. Any ideas why, maybe since it is a dual boot. I could get rid of Linux if necessity since I have a newer version on another SSD. Thanks, Mike

All my computer does is continually beep and does nothing else. I am assuming that my laptop hard drive is going bad but I am not sure.

I'm so freaking frustrated with trying to reset my toshiba satellite C660 laptop! I have tried this about 199 times already, but my laptop just doesn't go to 'Warning', as seen here. No matter how many times I try I can't get it to go to the warning screen sometimes I can get it to be but even if it does it takes me to the startup screen

the 0-button trick (i've seen in other videos as well) just doesn't work on my Toshiba laptop! and here's my story: have a Toshiba Satellite L645 laptop that does start but its HD's stopped working recently ... note: there used to be only 4GB of RAM installed in this machine for years and although it has a damaged power socket (due to a lousy former user!) it's been working for me nicely enough after i half-repaired that socket ... but trouble may as well be with the 65W PSU that cannot handle the upgrade from 4GB to 8GB i did a few months ago ... (had a similar issue with another old laptop in the past, replaced the PSU from 65W to 90W and it started working again ...) any ideas or suggestions?

Won't work when the hard drive dies. What then? Installed a new hard drive but no OS. This sucks when the company does not supply the OS on disc with the computer.

+justin hatch It could be your hard drive. Why are you restoring it? Was it sluggish. You can buy a hard drive used on Ebay for $15 and then just hard install an OS on it via DVD disc. You can get windows 7 install disc and the hard drive cheaply online.

The advice to Factory Reset my Toshiba Laptop didn't work for me. I went to Update and Recovery folder and selected Reset>Keep My PC>Reset. This Reset back to factory settings so that I can gift the computer to a relative.

I have tried everything and all that happens is the beeping. It will NOT pull up the boot manager. I give. I am not idiot but this damn computer makes me feel like one. I have reset 2 this week already with no issues but this damn Shiba.... Grrrrrrr

This video has some good info, however the filming is bad. cleaning your desk and the light reflecting on the screen made it impossible to see what you are pointing at. Perhaps redo?

Hey I have a lenevo x220 and I put solid state drive password on it and I can't type speacial characters that are on top of number keys I took it apart and took out cmos battery but there is only root user on it using a USB Kali Linux thumb drive it's like someone changed my function key the solid state drive is the second password that comes up I can't get passed it I read that taking out cmos battery for like 30 min will reset it it gives me a message to check time and date f1 usually takes me to bios so if I hold 0 will it reset my solid state drive password it's the second one that comes up when booting Kali Linux from USB stick ??? Please help????
