Tosenkyo - How to Play Traditional Japanese Fan-Tossing Game
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Tosenkyo (also called Toshinkyo) is a traditional Japanese fan-tossing game where players try to knock a target off a wooden stand by tossing an open folding fan.
The game originated in the 18th Century after a gambler was trying to take a nap and a butterfly bothered him. He tossed his fan at the annoying butterfly but missed several times. His failure though gave him an idea for a new game which was called Tosenkyo.
It was at first more of a rowdy game for sake drinking parties with more than a little gambling going on. Later the game was refined and became more of sophisticated parlor game (Toshinkyo - new rules game).
Scoring is based on how the fan and target land and can range from 1-50 points. The name of the points are called after sections of The Tale of the Genji, an 11th Century literary classic.
I encountered this game when I was traveling in Kyushu some time back.

Nice! You made it!
Amazing the games humanity comes up with.
Didn't know that game at all!
Hint. If you close it, it works better. :)
Seeing you throwing those fans makes me nervous. I'm a Phan (my last name). LOL
pretty fun!
You need to try this with a two-meter sensuken.
I've seen this depicted before in some Japanese period TV dramas and films. It seems to be best played when surrounded by giggling geishas. (:
@mancio1 Thanks! We got shook up in Tokyo but we came thru alright. Scared the hell out of me though
