Tosca Park (Les Preses) Garrotxa

The Tosca forest, located within the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone, in the north-east of Catalonia, is known for its unique volcanic landscape and for its diversity of flora and fauna.
The name of the park comes from the specific rock formations called "tosca", which are formed by rapidly cooled and fragmented lava, contributing to the distinctive landscape.
Its name refers to the oak tree that was there and that was cut down at the beginning of the 19th century to obtain wood and make charcoal. Later, the distribution of minifundistas transformed the space into a mosaic of small crops delimited by dry stone walls, called artigues. These walls and other rural constructions that we find there are built with pumice stone, the volcanic rock that characterizes the place.
Due to its biodiversity, the park is a refuge for many species of protected flora and fauna. Rare species of orchids and various types of mushrooms can be found, as well as animals such as wild boars and foxes.
Access to this park is via the Carrilet route, this cycling and pedestrian track that follows the old train track and offers spectacular views of the volcanic landscape.
Parc de la Tosca is an ideal destination for lovers of nature, geology and for those who want to explore the spectacular landscapes of the volcanic region of Garrotxa.
