after the culling process where does the not so nice culled koi goes. Did the sell it for a cheaper price?

No they do not sell the not so nice ones for a lower price. They just kill them because they don’t want to flood the koi market with cheap koi. And it hurts their name for selling crappy fish.

The reasonable but not amazing ones go to garden centres but most end up culled in acid

It’s a very good question. The not nicer onces won’t make it and die, that quite simple. They make fish meal from it.

Crystalpal1978 garden centers don’t buy koi from Japan but mostly from local breeders in their own country... so in the end you can’t call it Japanese Koi 🙈

I am looking for kois with a breed standard, if you could help me identify the ones I have and find the ones I want it was a dream! Another dream was to travel to Japan and be able to see it! I know the culling is essential but you can be guaranteed that some of those killed would still be stunning fish compared to a lot of the crap you see for sale in some places!

I know Makoy, the thing is that most dealers and hobbyist dont wat to buy the other (less quality) Koi because they dont sell it. Imaging the costs to get one box shipped to your country... No one can make money on it... its the truth (sad)

I usually enjoy your videos, but this time I feel the title misrepresents the video. I was expecting to learn how to actually select koi as indicated by the description of the video when in fact all it showed was the owner selecting koi. It didn't actually explain what to look for in the selection process as I was hoping it did.

I feel bad for the not so pretty patern ones. It feels so cruel bringing the to life thousands of healthy beautiful fishes just to kill them for something so superficial :c and even make food from them to the other fishes. It reminded me of that movie Could Atlas. Such a beautiful hobby and so creepy and cruel.

While i loved this video its sad they breed sooooooo many and kill off 95% of them :(
