Tory Minister Called Out Over Record Tax Burden!

The Secretary of State for the DWP, Mel Stride, was called out on his narrative that the Tories are cutting taxes. This is the opposite of true, and he was forced to admit that fact by Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

@@grizcuz Labour could have a lot of fun by holding televised public enquiries and recommending prosecutions. With the time frame it would be a steady drip drip of Tory crimes in the media. And a few high profile cases might be coming to a conclusion just as the next election after this is due, and the Tories would be hoping for a bit of a comeback with a rebalancing of their upcoming historic loss.

I have to call this out. National insurance is not a tax, only a a fool or a liar would suggest it to be. The clue is in the name. If it was a tax, it is the only one that you get back. NI, in part, goes to pay for the NHS and pensions. Cutting this would befund both, which, in particular, the pension, the government would have to find the short fall and drive up government spending in the short term. This would force people to take out private equity, which would be more expensive. Defunding is the Tories' answer to abolition.

I don't know why politicians cannot be honest and declare the unpalatable truth. The tax burden across the bulk of high-income countries are rising because, as the OBR points out, of ageing populations, higher stocks of debt, energy insecurity and climate change. Some tough decisions need to be taken by all countries if the burden is not to become onerous such as increasing the pension age, easing immigration, ditching fossil fuel subsidies and so on.

B) Any borrowing will incur the ‘Moron Premium’ caused by the Truss/Kwarteng clusterfuck. The cost of SERVICING the UK’s debt is increasing, not decreasing.
