AFR really is unparalleled in the industry
On my 421 sbc I used AFR 220 heads with AFR TXR Titan intake and Holley Terminator X TBI, made 620hp at 6250 rpm and very responsive. Mainly weekend Cruising. Could not be happier. From Down Under.
AFR is probably one of the best head companies out there. I plan on using their heads on my big bock chevy build. I called to ask some question and the customer service was excellent - informative and very friendly
I have 210's on a 434 SB Chev. 10.5 cr, .600 lift, 950 Quick Fuel. It made 598 hp at 6300, with 562 Tq at 4600. In a 3300 lb Nova with a Turbo 350 and 4500 stall it runs 10:40's @ 128. About 6900 through the lights. Some people comment: oh those heads are too small. Then I make a run !! Tons of torque down low and still pulls hard up top. These heads are great and size does matter, my motor is never lazy, and it recovers very well at the shifts. Plus I drive it on the street ! Well done AFR.

Scott is the cylinder head man.i ordered the street elimanator heads thanks to scott.hes a very smart professional man.afr is lucky to have this man
I started racing in 1968 and YES this man knows what he is talking about so call him !
I do believe AFR is thee best cylinder heads on the market.. There is a reason best engine builders and engine testers like Richard Holdner and Engine master guys use these to test pretty much every HP engines they build!

Best off the shelve head
Best starting point I know of is application: what rpm range am I really going to use? Brutal honesty is the rule, and observing that powerbands have tradeoffs - no such thing as dead flat VE from 3k to 8k - and your torque curve will prove it.
I love my gm 088 rectangular port heads
What a solid dude!!

Was so great to spend time with the whole ARF crew at PRI. It was great to not only get this info on video, but to spend time with Scott off camera and really dive into the way he helps customers find the RIGHT choice to obtain their goals.
Ok I did this got great power, but took a bare untouch head had it cnc for max flow, what a difference, got 100 more horse, and 175 more torque. Your cam is the most important
About 10 years ago when I was first getting into building engine I researched the internet up and down and came to the conclusion that I wanted to try AFR heads on my first 383, I ordered some 195s, I blew that motor up in short order, so I built another 383, this time with 210s I put that motor together in probably 2015, put over 60k miles on it with a lunati voodoo solid roller, it originally had pinging problems due to my mistakes, it had a bad carb, and hei distributor issues, but at 40k I went with a holley sniper, efi and distributor, went to flat top pistons for more compression, and changed the rod bearings, valves and lifters. It runs hard in my 4800 pound truck and I’m not easy on it you can see it on my page if you want to take a look
Looks like they’ve got great customer service. Still didn’t call and bought AFR1660s for my LS 383 stroker with FAST LSXR 102 and Summit Saturn V cam.
I had AFR 210 CNC ported on a 434 680hp large solid roller 685 278/284@50 and 383 580hp street roller 575 255@50
We’ve been doing business with these guys for some time now and their products are great. Zero issues and Their customer service second to none.

Is there a formula to calculate the preferred valve size using the bore size, desired rpm range, or engine displacement?

Rough formula, bore x .51 (or .52). Is what many go by, but the other variables come into play also.

CHI has been doing Clevo for decades and TF must've bees getting requests. Cleveland's are a smaller market than Windsor which already has good heads from CHI, Kasse ect. AFR likely did a study into Clevo heads and found they wouldn't make any money.

Depends what you are using the engine for.
i made a set of 283 power pack heads run low 11s and 7:20 in the 8th in a s10 with 1.72-1.50 valves i spent a lot of time on those ! nobody believed they had those teeny tiny stock valves i polished them by hand ! i just ported a set of 906 big block heads for a 383 those went 6:60 in 8th 10:80 in the quarter in a 3200lb car not sure what the horsepower is but id say i probably did something right .
Hawk?
And they make nothing for the Mopar guys?
One thing you forgot to talk about and that is actually receiving your cylinder heads in a timely manner, 6 months and counting and they are not nothing exotic!

Hi Ross, we apologize about the extended lead times on heads. Our industry has been hit pretty hard by all this. Pretty much all us manufacturers are in the same position, doesn't matter what parts you are ordering. i.e. heads, blocks, pistons, rods, etc. I can honestly tell you that no one here at Air Flow Research is happy about the situation, especially our Sales and Tech departments.

@shanerorko8076
Жыл бұрын
@@trailerparkcryptoking5213 no that is not what he said, he said it's the third thing he will tell you, not it's the third most important. He's also trying to explain it in layman's terms, cross section is what you actually pay attention to. Port volume will be different if the runner is raised as it has just become longer. So you can use volume if you're comparing to 23deg SBC heads but the 18, 14, 13, 12 and 11 degree heads will have longer ports because the runner is actually raised making comparing port volume of a 23 degree SBC head usless to an 18 degree head.

@@shanerorko8076 lookin here! We have an actual smart guy, not just an internet moron that only knows what his uncle told him. I am an engineer and vastly understand volumetric, flow rates, fluid mechanics and the fact that heads do not ever see steady state flow. Velocity of fluid flow through an intake port constantly changes with RPM and will change with changes in intake valve timing events! How’s that padna? If you try to correct these facts then you know nothing!

hi U could post recommended MCSA or the formula on the website with a waiver saying application must be checked with cust service . Now I am overseas and on a 6400-6500 redline for a 400cuin SBC AFR recommended a 195 1.9 mcsa by phone . What an absolute croc 220cc 2.2 MCSA 3200 stall 3.6 gear 4bbl 1 7/8 primaries these will make any 400 cu breath and use a larger head 400 stock 5800rpm =195 ,,, 400 modified 6500rpm =220 ,,,,,400 12.5 to 1 .CR 7000rpm =227 head To rectify this if I had directly purchased they would have swapped them . BuT I purchased thru an agent [this service is not available because my purchase was done this way ]
The right afr head for my engine ? Easy the one that says trick flow it…… They great heads just outgrew the 220 had to step it up while retaining the factory valve angle.
Mentions that the math is so important. Reaches for a calculator. Waiting to hear some formula numbers and nothing.
