Torque Screwdrivers, What do they do? Wiha VDE Slim Torque Screwdriver Set
Over the years we've taken a look at a few different Torque Screwdrivers from some big brand names like WERA and Armeg but never the Wiha. It goes without saying that Wiha are one of the biggest screwdriver manufacturers in the world so how will the 5pc Torque Screwdriver fair up against the competition...

Me as a industrial electrician use them on new projects new control cabinets i am building etc... i am not using them them daily i also have the almost the same wiha torque set butt the larger one in a black toolrol with more bits. I like the torque driver because it hase a big range i think from 0.8 to 5nm butt there is one bigg thing what almost ruins the pleasure of using them on a new project and that is that the bits keeps falling out/comming lose out of the driver extansion. Butt in general i like to use the bit of kit personaly i wera made the same kind of torque driver so one with the same kind of range on it i would use it daily.

@@pyrounlimited7035 Is the locking collar on the extension, locking correctly? I had a couple of bits that seemed to have a burr on the top of them stopping them going in fully and the locking collar snapping closed properly. They would then fall out on occasion. I just removed the burrs and then the collar would lock properly.

I have the full set and use it whenever possible. But be aware that you do not use it as a regular screwdriver as you have done in the video. Unscrewing is also not meant to be done. The manual clearly tells you to use it just for the last "torque" part of tightening.

I bought the Wiha torque screwdriver because all my electric screwdrivers are Wiha. I bought a set of Wiha one day as I needed a new 4.0mm screwdriver and there happened to be an offer on a complete set. Really well pleased with them in general as I like the feel of them in my hand, I have found much nicer than other brands and they are a great fitting screwdriver in general. My one and only criticism of them is that I wish the idents on the end of them were better. I have a pocketed tool bag and with the handles up the way you can only see an image of roughly what you are lifting out. Apart from that minor one, great product.

I have both the Wiha and the Armeg torque screwdrivers. I like the Wiha, as it is compatible with their complete range of VDE bits, giving you pretty much and type of bit you would ever need. I don't like that you have to keep taking out the extension to change the torque value. Also don't like that torque values go up in 0.2, so for the odd ones you have to set it on a blank window, and now I am old I keep forgetting what it is set to, so have to take the extension bit out again to check. The Armeg you don't have that issue, but it doesn't have as many bits and it is quite a bit bulkier, especially if left in its case.

Thanks for the video. I have the Wera; amazing quality as ever. I think there are two models, covering different torques, but they are annoyingly narrow ranges. I like that you can change the value with a separate tool. This Wiha has a great range, but the need for an extra change tool is disappointing. Seems like there’s a gap in the market still for the perfect insulated torque driver.

Don’t ignore Draper as a brand. It’s more competitive on price, and functions equally as well. I have the ‘tool roll’ set, and it does all you need. Easy to change values. Related topic: nobody publishes torque settings for accessories, sockets etc. I’d like to see figures published for high power switches, such as cooker and shower switches. I tried to get settings from ‘mainstream accessory manufacturers’ but got nowhere. The only seem to quote the MCB / RCBO / SPD and CU settings….

Hmm a bit of a faff with the RCBO having two different torque requirements. I wonder how many people will set the first value, remove the screwdriver bit, find the little adjustment tool, re-insert the screwdriver bit and torque up the second screw. You are correct, only one click should be achieved. Going for subsequent clicks will take you beyond the desired setting.

Love my Wiha torque driver, I'd be lost without it. 🙂 A colleague of mine has the Wera torque driver which I quite like because you can adjust the torque setting at the neck without dismantling it whereas with the Wiha as shown you have to take the actual bit out and use the adjustment tool which I think can be a bit of a faff. 😂 Apart from that it's definitely a top quality product. 💪🏻

I have mixed feelings about it’s utility because it very difficult to torque something to 5 nm(or 4). If there’s going to be a separate to tool to set the torque it should be more useful. Why not make the tool a t-handle that you can insert into a slot at the back of the screwdriver handle so you have some leverage? Of course the tool would also have to be VDE. Even better, a pistol grip like the Wera but articulating so you have the option. I know the articulation would be a weak spot under high torque but that’s for engineers to figure out. I’m not even sure an articulating one could be made VDE compliant.
