i have those and i love it

Torpey doesn't make good quality hurls. They're mass produced for sports shops and for overseas sales and hurleys need to be carefully handmade. I don't think a single intercounty hurler would dream of using a Torpey from a shop.

No he is getting ash from Poland and there is no life in the hurl at all witch cosses it to break

Not a big fan of Torpey. God knows how he got countrywide supply to Lifestyle Sports and Elverys. Had two of them and they broke too soon. Outside of Clare they're not very well-respected, I've seen a few inter-county players refuse to play with one. A lot of players don't like them because Torpey doesn't use Irish ash anymore and that was bad for our economy. The best hurley makers only use Irish ash. Star hurls in Kilkenny, Scullion in Antrim, O'Connors in Cork are the best. Have a Star and a Scullion hurl myself. Star hurleys are amazing but harder to find if you don't live near Kilkenny but plenty of clubs stock them even in Dublin and you can always ring and order one. Scullion make brilliant hurls and are the best in terms of service. They have their own website and can send anywhere in the world, and its a fairly small family business! Either way its always best to go to a hurley maker's base to buy one since you can make sure of the size and weight, I did that with Scullion Hurls and got a brilliant hurl, the main man Micheál can make one in front of you if you ring ahead and can make a hurl to exact specifications, weight and length. Absolute class.

You're 100% right Dáire, I can't strike with a Torpey, the shock goes right up your arm. They also break easily and are far too light.

Special order Torpeys are far better, but by then its too expensive and too much hassle for me :P

If you think its worth it and you're near, don't hold back, although do consider getting a hurl from Flannery or Flan Marsh who makes the 'unbreakable' hurls.

Old torpeys are fine but the new shite they are coming out with shur tis made in China

Torpey Hurleys are shite get a Brian Walsh or Jordan down in Wexford or Canning Hurleys in Galway
