@@za.monolit If you want to get into medical school being from another province you need a high MCAT score (99th percentile) as spots are usually limited to the single digits. In Ontario (where I applied), people had an average GPA of 3.9-4.0 with more than 20 spots on their ABS filled. I can assure you that the doctors are more than qualified in Canada due to the limited number of spots and high competition.

It's a fact that in most countries with universal healthcare have lower amounts of medicine, equipment, and technology needed for a first world country. In most countries with such systems, (depending on the population, of course) technology, medicine, and even medical beds can be scarce due to so many people using it, or because they just can't buy it. Wait a minute, but the government owns healthcare, why can't they buy it? Because that's just it. It's government. They're top priority isn't to place orders on medical beds from manufacturers. I'm going to use the United States as an example but to make sure that you don't think I'm a biased monster I'm going to look at another country with non free healthcare, and that is Russia. Russia, on paper, has free and universal healthcare, but in reality most of the field is extremely private. Though it is true Russia is a second world country, it does have extremely good healthcare for it's amount of population. 144 million people have access to not free, but efficient healthcare with all of the supplies and doctors they need. As for the US, this is also true. With privatized healthcare hospitals are able to efficiently fulfill quotas made by their directors to make sure they have the equipment and medicine they need to properly serve their patients. A universal health care system, again, depending on the population, can cause problems when it comes to just how many people receive healthcare. From my experience, in Spain, a country with 46 million people and universal healthcare, I've had to wait 10 hours for an appointment with a doctor. I've heard the same story from people within the United Kingdom and France. Not Germany, as Germany is a federal republic meaning healthcare isn't paid for completely by the state but rather by the local Bundesländer where the hospital resides in making it hard to compare to Canada, UK, France, and Spain as they all have Unitary governments. Now let's look at the history; from all of the cancer treatment medicines produced from 2013-2017, %93 was available in the United States, %70 in the United Kingdom, %53 in Canada, and a plummeted %46 In France. The last three of which have universal, free healthcare under a Unitary government. Not only that, more people in the United States get cured for cancer than any where else in the world. Again, the argument of the Nordic states or nations such as Ireland or Portugal can't be made due to all of those countries retaining small population. Infact non pass 12 million people. Hence why they're so effective. Now let's go to what you were saying about doctors. In the US it takes 10 years of schooling to become a doctor (depending on the field) soooo... Yeah.
