Toronto, Let's Ride Your New Streetcar ❤️ LOVE IT!

I went to ride Toronto's beautiful, new streetcars the first day they went into service and I love them. Well, everything except for the location of the box where you pay to get on. As you can see in the video, once the streetcar gets full and people block the machine, how do you pay for the ride? How do you even get close to it, in a packed streetcar? It might be an issue.
The music in this video is Royalty Free music made on Garageband. It's called "Jaracanada".

The CLRV's had a classic look. I remember when Toronto first started replacing the PCC's with them. It's hard to believe their useful life has ended. The new cars look great, and the increased capacity should make operations faster and smoother. Toronto had the good sense not to abandon streetcars, unlike most cities that are now spending billions to put them back in service. Thanks for the video. Excellent!

It doesn't necessarily means that they're out of service 'coz 1- and 2-carriage cars are very suitable for between-peak times of day when payloads are less. But surely they need to be refurbished to get some modern on-board equipment and low-floor platform in-between

@@Whitebeard79outOfRus, they can't be modified for anything anymore, they've come to the end of their useful lives. That's why getting the new streetcars seen in the video all over Toronto is important.

@@Skyfoogle, streetcar wiring is _not_ 'visual pollution' at all, especially if you live in cities that have either streetcars or light rail. Also, expecting Toronto to build subway lines everywhere is just plain stupid; we don't have the density to build them outside of downtown (and the one we do have that is, the Sheppard STUBway, was and is a colossal waste of money.) We need Transit City to be reactivated again.

They already do at a few places, Steven, plus people should be buying their fares in the stations as they board, and when they do pay, they should be buying PRESTO cards (or PRESTO tickets) to ride buses, subway trains, or streetcars. Ignorance of a transit system is no excuse, and tourists should prepare beforehand how they will ride public transit in a city they're going to visit _before_ they go there.

All those streetcars have been based on the European design which are in place for years in the European cities. Go Toronto..It's never late! Presto is great system but only a handful of TTC stations and 3 streetcars are taking this card. Go Toronto...it's never late!

***** True. TTC is implementing the Presto however Presto is in the GTA since 2009! First TTC refused to add the Presto Card as they were looking for their own system. Finally, the government asked (and no choice) TTC to implemented Presto. TTC has been ruined by too much political decisions and bad management for years. I believed that Andy Byford is the right guy but we should leave the TTC in the hands of transit professional. They are too slow following the new economic rules and the changes in the population mentality.

This streetcar is great since it isnt cold in the winter or hot inside during the summer compared to the last ones with out AC. those 4 seaters though are a bust and they could have done a better job on the floor of the streetcar because it is a disaster in the winter when it snows and people bring in snow or slush. Also, you really have to be careful when they are taking a corner. If you arent holding on, you could go flying. It can really jerk you around.

sm vanwers Since this video was taken in 2014, they've switched over to pantographs on this line as well as a few others. The rest of the system is being converted as well. The issue is with the old streetcars that can only operate with trolley poles, but those should all be retired by the end of the year.

Kaden Martin It costs 3 dollars to ride the streetcar in Toronto. It includes access to all buses and subways. You just need to ask for a transfer. It's all included for the 3 dollar price. If you buy tokens, the price comes out to $2.80/ride.

I've been to Toronto and I found street cars extremely slow. I really like the buses and the metro system there (even though they're very expensive). Given the option between a bus or a street car, I always took the bus.

+Mottahead I'm the opposite, I never take buses. I really dislike riding in a bus. I much prefer the flow and charm of a streetcar. I especially hate the new buses because they have no room to stand when the bus is full. They are very narrow, with awkward bump outs blocking the way. You obviously did not spend much time on Toronto's newer diesel buses. Did you not see the new, long streetcars? They are really cool! They are air-conditioned and give you a really smooth ride. They look beautiful too! Everybody in Toronto loves the new streetcars!

Stepping off and boarding trams to and from roadways there was dangerous and aggravating, cars often willingly encroached passengers beside stopped trams. And now I notice that sticking a small compulsory stop sign onto any one of the tram doors is no longer possible, because none of the doors to this new fleet flaps open. Other tram operators require dynamic stop signage be devised into their fleets where calling at stops devoid of platforms is standard, yet why doesn`t that one there?

These "Swift Outlooks" have the warning text in the back of a tram for the car drivers which light on as doors are opened. But of coarse, the modern tram's stations have to be with platforms, the Toronto case is the outdated one due to outdated "streetcar" idea of a city tram.

horrible idea-mixing TRAINS (and tracks)with automobiles, bicycles and baby carriages. TTC devours well over HALF the city's budget-BEFORE including track street repairs! i bet someone in Miller's family got an executive position catching butterflies in exchange for the bombardier contract. now is the time to sue for contract cancellation and SCRAP the street cars in favor of electric buses. in less than a generation the driverless taxis will be the ONLY local surface travel public transit that people will even WANT to utilize. the street cars are a curse to working people who's time is worth something.

E-buses are not contradict to trams because trams have to be an express transport due to its native pluses and minuses. So horrible is not trams itself but the old-fashioned "streetcar" way of using it, 'coz streetcar is local transport in core, mere "bus over rails' which doesn't allow tram to realise its potential. Buses/E-buses are convenient for local part of PT as they have less capacity then trams but can easier stop more often. So they're suitable for "the last mile"
