You should use mono backing so that way you save a lot of braid and can use it as a spare. It also helps to get a more even spool.

How is that reel performing? You might want to get it serviced for a cleaning I may be wrong but this is squeak when you spend handle?

Very well. It needed a shim or spacer under the spool to correct the line lay. I switched to 40 lbs braided powder pro as couldn't fit all the 300 of this other line

Use the washer it came with for this exact purpose

Most of the time when you buy combos, you don't get the box to the reel, and no extra washers.

I also use it with a12' squadron 3 surf rod
i spooled mine with 50lb catching small mahi
add a shim to the main shaft...
you are spooling the braid to tight
