    It was incredibly good. I remember Proflight on the ST (also a Tornado simulator), but this one was superior in almost every way, and it worked fine on a 386SX@16 MHz... WTF

    Yes! I remember playing this at 11/12 yo on an Amiga. Rubbish frame rate on my machine, but I didn't care. Such detail, blew my mind as a kid. Also the lovely big box, containing a proper manual and actual paper maps! Brilliant sim for its time.

  • @JuriSalminen

    @JuriSalminen

    I had a Amiga 1200 with with a Blizzard 030 card but the frame rate was still rubbish. And the worst part - the Amiga version did not have the Command part of the game, which took up almost half the manual :) This simulator was a major reason why I ditched the Amiga and got a PC :)

    One of my favourite combat sims. Now available on Steam at long last, and it still plays brilliantly after all this time! One of the scariest flight sims ever, sheer terror. Real Tornado pilots must have had nerves of steel. Have to say this is much better than DCS. The dynamic campaigns are superb, especially once you realise you can choose your own target and run the air war the way you want to.

    Ran this on a 386SX @16MHz back in the day. Of course it didn't run super fast, but it ran! Maybe 20 fps or so? That was freaking impressive. Plenty of fast games around even in those days, but not with this realism and not with such a feature set. The 3D engine lacked sprites or circles, but had these lovely rasters on the horizon and white outs when you flew through clouds and such.

    The RAF was also pretty weak against Helvetica, Gill Sans, basically all of the modern-looking sans serif fonts. The problem is that they had optimised their strategy against Akzidenz Grotesk and the gothic fonts, but by the 1980s that model was out of date.

    I mean it must have been very strong in terms of ground attack at least. And the Cold War was over so I imagine air defences wasn’t really the priority. They had the Tornado F3, which could fulfill the role of intercepting random aircraft in the airspace, and the Typhoon soon to enter service so in the end it was fine.
