Wonderful David, I recently had Robert Baxt on my Podcast and He has his version of the Torn and Restored Newspaper trick on the market, that Penn and Teller do in their evening Vegas act. I just added it to my show and It really is quite Impressive. I love and support what your doing my friend God bless you.

@@DavidDellman With Baxt's version no R.C is used, and as long as you have extra newspapers it is easy to set up as many times as needed. The gimmicks are brilliant. Loved hearing about the history of this fantastic effect.

Your knowledge, honesty and generosity are a wonderful gift. The great effort you put into this channel really shows. I've been fortunate to see the Torn and Restored Paper performed live several times. It's always pretty. I remember a performance years ago, {IBM ring 60 Austin TX, The Great Scott and his assistant Judy}, they performed this special show dressed as plumbers. This trick included patter to the effect of welding the paper back together. Upon unfolding the paper and showing the restored pages there were shiny strips of foil along the seams. That was probably 30 years ago, but it made a lasting impression on me. It was highly theatrical and fun for all present.

I think this is a great opening effect for a parlor show. However, as you mentioned, this trick has some drawbacks. I've always struggled to find something to replace this as a show opener.... show openers are tough, in my view. I am just an amateur but recognize the importance of a good quality opening. Thanks for any thoughts on the issue.

I used to open with the Gene Anderson version. I do mostly mental magic and mentalism now. I open with a story that leads to a stunning psychological force when it hits. Other times I open with a Brainwave style effect, and sometimes I open with a Koran Medalion type effect. But it's hard to find an effect better than the Gene Anderson torn and restored newspaper for a traditional magic act. I have seen variations on the effect that use poster board, magazines, or other alternatives to newspaper
