It's a beauty, this one. Came on random shuffle on my way to work through foggy London this morning. I know this song is about Napoleon's first wife, but my first unrequited love's name was Josephine, or Josie. I was her first kiss, age 14, but she soon blossomed into a beautiful woman always beyond my reach. We were very close but she always changed her mind at the last minute every time there was a chance to become a couple. She became more cold and more cruel, so after 20 years and a holiday from hell together I finally stopped holding a candle for her and moved on. That was five years ago. '...from here you're haunting me... only not to be of use, impossible... to advance or not to advance, I hear you laughing, even now you're calling me, not tonight, not tonight, not tonight... Josephine.'

Great song, and whoever translated the lyrics from Torispeak to English deserves an award

For real! Even with lyrics I've misheard for decades, (mascara burning, i.e. crying) I've loved this song since it came out. Like dozens of her other songs, I've only recently learned the actual meaning behind the lyrics, which adds so much depth to a song I already thought was impossible to top.

I had misunderstood some of the lyrics in here and it was so cool to see what they really are.

What a great insight into Napoleon and his feelings for Josephine while on campaign. I came across this video and given the title assumed it was soundtrack for the new movie about Napoleon.

John6yt People are going to stop wanting to ask questions if you reply to people with a less than gentle response duch as this. I could understand you being less than gentle if someone was being rude, but you need to be gentle when someone is asking an innocent question about something they do not know about. Tori herself would have considered your response harsh and insensitive.

Supposedly Josephine never loved him, just the way he loved her.

This song gives me a complex for some strange reason. I read one of his poems to her once, something about wanting to wander through her dark forest. I wonder if she could have set a beer stein on his head.

Is that a cover of the song sung by Ada Jones and Billy Murray (1911)?
