Tori, I love how you soo carefully take an iconic classic and own completely on your own terms

She's done so many sublime covers over the years, but I still remember the impact this EP had on me at the time. It's one thing to make your own music and do it so well, but to take these iconic songs by other artists and make them your own ... she was just incredibly gifted, and brave with it. ❤

It is going on 30 years that I have been listening to Tori recreate this piece, and I still can't listen to it w/o a box of Kleenex. I swear she opened her soul and poured it on the keyboard and into the mic.

@@stevelette4635 Sorry to take so long, I just saw this. Do you mean read music? I know she dropped out of music college because her instructor told her that she was too unconventional and would not amount to any thing! Sting also had an instructor who was an a hole...set a record for being caned the most times. Sounds like something Mick Jagger sang about in Jumping Jack Flash.

She did thos song in Memphis and my reinds Angie met her on theee stops of the tour including weeks before. Every time Tori turned to the crowd she was looking right at us. We were on blotter and before the show ate at the Spaghetti Factory where they sing happy birthday to patrons and the same grl was in 3rd row balcony and called out when it was quiet Tori ends up singing her happy birthday a while after we did!

Thank you for posting this! Wonderful! One of my favorite songs. One of my favorite artists. One of the best covers I've heard.

Ummm... this was a live rendition. She is playing the piano and singing this in front of an audience and bumped the mic a few times. Few artists can play like this live with zero instrumental backup, zero vocal backup and no second takes.

I have a problem with Tori. It's my problem. I find it hard to watch someone (esp female) being very dramatic , emotional and self aware on stage. I see it as egotism, hey look at me, aren't I special and precious. I feel similarly with Jessica Simpson, head tossing, sexy posture, a little catch in her voice. Look at me look at me look at me. But, when I just LISTEN to Tori I can finally HEAR her without judgement. AndxI am moved. Anyone else feel this way?

Tori is an acquired taste. Most people find it difficult to comprehend an artist as raw & vulnerable as she. I liken her to Medusa ( or any other mythological deity) that dares you to take a look whilst dares you to look at yourself & what compels you to be drawn or drawn away from the magic she is conjuring.
