I saw this video when it first came out, but now that I'm older, I appreciate it so much more. It really illustrates that strange dichotomy of grief - how it's the most intensely private thing but simultaneously public. And sometimes you just can't get out of the box while the world goes by.
@debbiebuff3585

You described it perfectly. That is what grief is like. I have been grieving the death of my oldest son the past few years and then I lost my mom back in December on top of it and the pain of losing them and feeling so alone in all of it but on display for everyone I know to watch me grieve but look then continue to walk past me only to say before going to move on its been long enough. They don't realize how trapped you can become. Especially when nobody was ever there to be your support system.

@Dazlidorne Jenkins Tori Amos 1000 Ocean is one of my favorite song
This was written for her husband. After his dad passed and he was just shattered. She was too and they couldn’t connect. She sat him down one day at the piano and this came out. She’s been my favorite since Little Earthquakes. And yes, I still cry.

Tori has always floored me. She is the sum of all musicians, as an artist and a storyteller, and with profound emotional intelligence. I just read her book Resistance (and listened to the accompanying songs) and I especially could relate to the descriptions of her journey as a working creative professional and dealing with expectations while staying one with her flow. Tori gives sage advice.

I do too. As a survivor she was the one who got me to finally talk about it & be an advocate. She’s my shero. My abuse was 5 years from kindergarten if not before until 4th grade. When I did talk about it another neighbor girl admitted he did the same things. She’s doing ok now. I check in just to say hi. I got her in therapy. And when you meet Tori it’s pure love. I’m forever indebted to her. Hugs
The melodies are beyond gorgeous, it's magic. It's among the most beautiful melodies ever written in Western culture in the last 120 years, I dare say. Sung by a beautiful voice and made into such a beautiful video help too.

Ive known this song since it first came out & was immediately drawn to it & would cry listening to the lyrics. Years later I've experienced heart break on a hole new level & this song permeates all the open space in my heart. Life can be so hurtful at times.. it's kinda ironic that we seek support from the outside, yet it's the inside place in us that needs to come out and give us strength. This song brings that out of me.

Tori Amos 1000 Oceans is one of my favorite song!
i understand her explanation on being disconnected with the world around her after her dad passed, because of her overwhelming grief. The box she is in, she symbolizes that aching and grief and cut off from the everything and everyone one feels when in a deep grief. one where we find ourselves realizing we would give anything to follow the one we lost, even if it meant leaving here to be with them if we could. grief is oddly so insanely isolating and lonely, yet at the same time while we are in it we are looking outside the windows of our box and we just see how everyone else and life itself just moves on. she captured everything about grieving perfectly.

Just curious. When. Where? I fell in love in the early 90's in the Little Earthquakes tour. Her and a piano and probably not more than several hundred in attendance. Lumberyard. Mobile, AL. Literally, the best concert I ever went to. I tried to catch that dragon, and went to probably six more of her concerts. The closest i came was possibly her and Allanis Morrisette in Atlanta. Very good, but I'l never forget my first time. I guess I gave up when teenaged girls showed up in "faerie" wings. Blech!

This was the first Tori Amos video I've ever seen. Having grown up listening mostly to Top 40 stuff, this was new to the 11-year-old me. The concept of the video was also alien, haunting and alluring to me all at the same time.
