This is one of if not your best coral care videos. Very informative. Interesting to learn about the collection areas for the aussie ones. Over the years I've never had one last long term. A long time ago I had a black and yellow worm inside the head of a gold torch.

My new Aussie gold torch is a wall variety. I had another example several years ago that was a gold branching torch so I was fairly surprised myself when this torch came in in the wall form. Exacty same coloration and polyp form as my previous one too...😊

I do love torches and have always had a problem with the rainbow Aussie variety. Thank you for the info about them because that can explain why I have success with other varieties and fail with the Aussie rainbows. That flatworm was crazy. A awesome video as always.

So glad I watched this - especially the details on the gold torch. I’ve had mine for about 4 months now and it’s doing really well - maybe because I stir up/fluff my sand bed several times a week? From what you said, this might be giving it a bit of the turbid water that it benefits from... The bleaching thing in response to too much light is so true - I had a purple and gold on the sandbed slightly off-axis but it started dumping zooxanthellae. I moved it higher up (better chaotic flow), more sideways, and closer to the back, and it’s now showing great signs of recovery. I think torches exemplify what attracts me to the hobby - challenging but not impossible, and very rewarding when things go well. 😁

Great video, I find torches very peaceful to watch and I have always been a big fan of the movement.

Nice video as always. As for the gold torches... i came across a hobby retailer that had these and they had reproduced in his tank. Not by growth, but by seeds/eggs? His tank was covered with tiny torches after a while. Have you ever seen (stony)corals reproduce like that?

nice video, you forgot to mention the fact that under low lighting it tends to open much more than under higher intense lighting.

As a glass blower Anemone are my favorite subject matter. So much fun to make with so many varieties. Plus, the Flow that they exhibit transitions into a glass sculpture really well. Kind of ironic to me that my favorite types are "Torches'' before I knew they were called that. XD

Torch corals aren’t anemones

I think the more rare coral is worth growing and propagating for a more adapted coral to the home aquarium. As hobbiest we should understand that it would require a premium price.

I loved the video, amazing images. I liked the information very much, I just do not agree much with lighting, I have success with higher PAR values, more than 200. I believe with a higher lighting, we get a more vivid coloration. Feeding, I have never directly fed my torches, I think if you have a good amount of fish is enough. ...I already had problems with these worms, and after a few months I removed them.

I have a golden torch and green tip torch that do excellently. I have one green torch that has been trouble for months. I moved it to the sand bed after a month because it just cannot handle flow. Now the tips of the tentacles are very very slowly losing their color (I think bleaching?), from the end slowly (weeks) moving towards the base. Can that happen from too low light?

My torch and hammer have weirdly done better than any coral ive owned outside of my xenias. They thrive like crazy in my tank. I need to research fragging them at some point

another great video. can torches and hammers be placed in close proximity or should they be several inches apart when fully extended?

No no keep your torches away from your frog Spohn and your hammers it’s even a good idea to keep the hammers and frog Spohn separate although they don’t harm each other if the hammer and frog Spohn come together if they are stressed the touching can exacerbate the stress but the Torches can absolutely sting and damage the frog spaun and hammers

I have an interesting story: I have a purple torch with green tips and put it in a 5 gallon tank that was too difficult to keep the parameters in check and soon noticed my zoas deteriorating....oddly tho my torch flourished especially with HIGH nitrates...it’s now in a much cleaner tank and recovering due to the drastic water change but not flourishing nearly as much as it was in my ‘dirty tank’

I was told to not really chase numbers .as long as your water is all screwed up it’s about consistency.I have 4 in my tank and they have been doing good so far and my nitrates and phos were high but I have been getting them down slowly .but yea it’s crazy how some do good and some don’t

In your experience, have you seen any negative effects of spot feeding reef roids to torches?

Is so fantastic corals... I can't buy anything yet because my tank have Dinos are Dinos flagellates...

This coral is the only euphylia that actually does wonderful for me😭 and the only 5 corals I will ever keep

My torch frag is on its way out, I had it about 6 weeks. I wasnt sure if it didn't like the flow. Was thinking of moving it to low flow area? It's tips appear to have almost now all disappeared. Water parameters all appear OK.

great video! just picked up my first torch. does the location level matter in the tank? I have a 55 and lfs says put them in the middle, but other sites recommend putting them low in the tank.

i have a large hammer and i think it killed my new blue tip torch so yeah, love/hate relationship

I know this video might be old but. I have 2 torches that there tentacles have been twisting and throwing them off. Any known issues with this?

I have a really tough time with hammer corals due to flow requirements. I have SPS and two attempts at hammers ended badly. Are torches any "easier" re flow; ie handling a bit stronger flow? I have a mixed reef but with mostly SPS, and unless I turned my pumps completely off, the hammer would just retract and die.

Theavreefguy, normally ok for a few months but a lot of people have issues after that point and I'm in Aus where they're coming from. Not impossible what so ever but keep a close eye on the base of the flesh 👍

I had a two headed torch coral which looked healthy for months and then a couple week ago it started to shrink. I took it out the tank and discovered some flatworms on the skeleton of the coral and after removing them I put the coral back in the tank . 2 days later one of the heads fell of but the other head now seems healthy . Just wondering , will the flatworms return and could there be eggs/more or have I got rid of them for good ?

Oh and also where do the flatworms tend to lay the eggs ? On the glass or the coral?

Also, what would you consider, colour/origin, a holy grail torch coral? I've seen both indo and Aussie claimed to be "a holy grail torch."

Is there such a thing as a brackish coral ?

I lost a beautiful torch in only 2 days and turned into brown jelly. Was that an infection as mentioned in the video? The torch was thriving for months prior.

yes, brown jelly is a very common infection that can kill torch corals quickly.

euphyllia eating flatworms ate so much of my euphyllias.... i hate them so much!

Derek Saunders I had that problem to have u managed to get rid of them , mine seem healthy now but I don’t know if there gone for good.

One of mine has all its tips stuck together. I can't get them to separate, anyone have experience with this? Is it normal?

Can I dip euphilia like torch hammer or frogs spawn?

ok thank you i brought a hammer and i got told to just drip acculimate i usaly dip with seachem reef dip should i just use the usal set up like 1ltr of water 2,5ml of dip this be ok for euphilia

Im a complete noob when ir comes corals, ive never kept any corals before and i was wondering if any of you experts out there think its a good idea to start with frog spawns or hammers, i already did some research on zoas and im not ready to keep them because of the whole toxin thing, thats why im looking around for easy and beautiful coral that wont kill me

guittya If it helps I started with a mushroom (ricordia) then a green hammer (branching) was my second. Went the same route and was happy till I got a gold torch..... omg was in love with it.

If my nitrates are around 20ppm will it kill the torch coral?

No, 20ppm is not that bad. If you are worried, I would try to slowly reduce that number to around 10ppm.

Anyone have experience with torch turn white?

i have a torch coral, but the tentacles are very long and thin and stringy looking. not very nice. does anyone have any idea whats causing this. thank very much for any help.

It depends on your water. Some places naturally have clean water while other places have really high TDS water.

Don't agree reg flow. Have very good success and much better view with low flow than higher flow.

If people took as good of care of their partners as they did their saltwater tanks...

I must be the only person who cant stand his voice. So many people comment about hive calm voice. Its not calm to my ears. He does make interesting good videos. I have watch a lot because im trying to get into the saltwater portion of the hobby. They are very informative videos that's why i watch them with a cringe.
