That’s fishing and your keeping it real, sadly something many don’t. But oh boy isn’t surface fishing so fun, it doesn’t matter if you hook up or not! It’s all about the take and the explosive visual fishing it offers above any other method. As for the channel it’s getting better and better guys. Keep it up, much love Chris Xx

*I would say it’s dang good since **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s caught a pike first time using it! My cousin had one that cost the same price I paid, but for one. And didn’t catch anything. I say it’s a winner!*

Great video guys. Love inducing a topwater take from a pike that has followed to the rod tip. Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn't. I recently had a trace fail on me at a lake and leave a rig in the fish. My mate had never caught anything and was on his 11th blank tried to make me feel better saying it would come out again. I said it wouldn't, as it would be sulking. Then a big momma I didn't know was at my feet got a gobfull of my jigfly tail and no hook and I was ready to drown myself. Next day my mate lands his first ever fish. 8lb pike with my rig in it's mouth, then follows it up with his second. The big momma at 17lb on the nose. Fishing is just like that and we love it that way.

I use the daiwa d-popper frog for fishing on the surface and it gets a lot of takes but really tricky to hook the pike. That's the trade off for fishing weedless sometimes.

Some very different takes there eh? The static one was fascinating, I've done that before with fish which followed jigs, but for it to happen on a surface lure was really cool!

Hi Andy, one question please, I'm primarily a Fly Fisherman, however I've just got into predator Fishing with Rats etc (and boy is it exciting when they pounce!), having a lot of success with a Spro at the moment, what's the thinking behind 50 pound braid, I'm currently using 15 pound mono with a trace, is it just to give it some extra welly, and to pull free of snags etc?

Just a bit of constructive criticism : try working the lures a LOT slower. Frogs and ducklings move quite slowly unless they are panicking and that in itself is enough to put a skittish pike off. Absolutely love your videos BTW!

Cheers Mick, and generally I'd totally agree, but on this (very warm) evening I couldn't get a touch unless I was ripping it - really frustrating! There's usually a few bigger ones around here but no joy this time. It's nearly topwater time again though, thank goodness!

I get much more follows and hits when l slow the retrieve right down and start twitching the lure slowly around in circles especially near the bank to trigger their aggression! They will normally hit the lures on the first or second cast in each particular new spot the second they see it, if they are in the mood to feed and provided they are still in the canal river or lake. A slower retrieve speed will definitely yield more results! A fast retrieve makes the lure look unnatural on the surface and spookes the pike into turning away!

nice video you two !! Topwaters always awesome , fly or lure they're all good Last year as the summer rolled on , my most consistent fishing with surface lures was after dark! Bit like a fishy game of murder in the dark I appreciate it's difficult to film at night but it's scary mad fun when you get big takes out of the blue, don't half make me jump sometimes. Looking forward to summer already. Maybe you could try to find the best weedless / snag less lures that are around now? Could be an interesting video My vote for the absolute best weedless lure ever would have to be an old one but a top lure none the less... Heddon Moss Boss in yellow or frog costume
