    I'm in. Good review. I put up a privacy screen last year using horizontal 5/4 boards. Lumber was soaked when I put it up not thinking about the swelling and shrinking of wood due to moisture content. Ended up re doing most of it because the boards shrank and no longer fit into my end post tracks. Live and learn

    Thank you for the review and the discount code. Using your link, I got 20 percent off showing at Amazon when I clicked the box for that, then added your discount code. Result - $18.19 before tax. Costs just a little more than the piece of junk moisture meter I got at Harbor Freight in store a couple of days ago, which measured no moisture in everything I pushed it into. Junk, which I'm returning to them. Thank you again.

    This comment isn't relevant to this video content, but they all help the algorithm....I have really enjoyed the Knipex Twin Grips that you reviewed. Lately I've been encountering a TON of stripped hex drive button and cap head machine screws while doing facility maintenance. Those Twin Grips just pop them loose like a dream! They can generate a lot more torque than the smaller L keys when needed. I don't reach for them as much as my 10" Pliers Wrenches, but lately it's been pretty close. If I lost them tomorrow, I'd buy them again so fast it might sprain my ordering finger. Also, they store really well in a tool bag or pocket because of the shape. Love that tool!

    Moisture meters with pins are not suitable for measuring concrete. You should do it with ball probe detectors. There are no universal meters. If you need to measure concrete moisture you buy one; for wood you buy another. With wood meter you get percentage of moisture reading, while detectors usually give you 0-100 point values that you should interpret using a special chart. Also there's a difference in measuring moisture in gypsum based material and cement based. Right now I'm using Flir MR59 for concrete/drywall and GeoFennel FHM20 for wood. Of course the aforementioned devices were way over $20, so this TopTes may be a good starting point. But for some more professional applications something more advanced should be bought. I mean like covering cement based render or a floor with waterproof liquid membrane. You usually need a relative moisture to be below 3%. And some meters would show 3%, although it's way above that. And the waterproofing won't stick to the surface. Don't ask me how I leant that...

  • @MORGANSMaintenance

    @MORGANSMaintenance

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah this one is more for wood… (it even has “wood moisture meter” on the meter itself.) They have all the other things listed as materials it does… but I agree with you 100% and should have said so. 👍. Especially when you are needing to know for something that will Fail if it’s not right, and not just a reference. I actually didn’t own one because when it’s necessary for me I would pay to have an independent person do it and document it for “insurance” sake.. For me It would be nice to have one to just check before having someone else come out though. The Firewood aspect I could see being useful for people who heat their homes with it.

    A buddy of mine laid a floor on concrete once too and the moisture was too high - (he knew because he had it checked and documented) GC was behind schedule and told him to lay it anyways… it failed.. but he had the GC sign off with knowing about the moisture prior to install. Without that we all know whose “fault” it would have been.

    @@MORGANSMaintenance With firewood there's one good rule. Burn the wood bought this year, the next year. And if you have your freshly cut timber, wait 2 years before it become firewood. I edited the first post couple of times, but in the end I said that it's a good entry-level tool.

    @@MORGANSMaintenance Here in Poland the law does not protect you even if you have someone's sign off. You're the trained, authorised expert and you take the responsibility. I had couple of instances where a construction site manager (that is an official title and it has legally binding consequences) told me to proceed with something. I refused, because I knew that at the end I would be the guilty one.
