There are many gardens that are full of beautiful blooms… and then sometimes plants turn into much more. Tennessee's "Topiary Joe" has taken his green thumb beyond decorative landscaping. A "by chance" opportunity with Disney World helped him refine his craft. And now his works are featured in Tennessee and beyond - places like New York, London and Australia. East Tennessee PBS caught up with Joe as he crafted some new pieces in his Tellico Plains workshop.

Every time I have come through Tellico Plains, your sculptures are one thing I have always looked forward to checking out. I'm so glad to know some of the background, now, of how it all comes about.
I was conceived during the 1976 bicentennial wagon train from carthage TN to west Virginia into Pennsylvania . my mom,was 16 and the guy she got with his name is Jeffrey Simms . my mom's name is Tina Bates if anyone has any pictures of this route of different people please let me know.
