Wonderful. Since my husband, Bill Groth, was State Capitol Architect for several years, I especially enjoyed the pictures of the Kansas State Capitol being built. Marcia Scott Groth

Great collection, Steve. I always had the impression Topeka was quite a progressive and urbane city until about 1960. I was born in Topeka in 1945 and moved away in 1986 chasing a better job with more pay. I found the job but lost my town and now I sometimes wish I had stuck around.

Thank you very much. I was born in 1957 in Topeka. It was a safe place to raise a family. I was a page in the state capitol when I was 12? then you could walk up the stairs and go out on the "crown" of the dome. great Kansas history artwork paintings in the capitol building ceiling.

Thank You for sharing this. I wish there were footage of Elmhurst neighborhood. I'm living in the oldest house in Elmhurst. I was told it used to be on a large farm and it was the first house built in the area.1857 I was told. All the rest of the houses around Elmhurst were built later. Loved the video.

if you knew what it was like to live the 1800 they did not have a lot of the modern technology that we enjoy to day you wouldn't complain about your petty problems like if you thought it was to hot now just imagine living with air conditioning or what about the convenience of having indoor bathrooms what would you do if you had no choice but bathe in the local creek or pond ? electricity in your home was a luxury for those who afford it the average joe had to make do with oil lamps and a fireplace for heat and cooking some places only had dirt floor and construction tech improved with power tools
