For anyone asking about the thickness of the clear coat after the treatment, the next step for this car was our full paint protection film coverage which prevents stone chips, scratches and swirl marks, meaning the clear coat is safe!

Orange peel is there on purpose on most cars, because it helps hiding defects. A perfectly flat paint surface shows every even so tiny defect (marring, scratch, etc), which is not desirable in most cases.

Nick Bloodoff I couldn’t agree more. Block sanding combined with orbital sanding (no more than 5mm stroke) is all I’ve ever used. Work back to 3000-5000 grit and it shouldn’t need much more than a polish to finish out. I can’t wrap my head around why he went from a proper orbital sander on the first stage to a large throw DA on the second. So much unnecessary work.

Very nice job it’s a huge undertaking to get paint perfect. Anyone complaining about clear coat being removed that car probably gets washed and waxed twice a week so it won’t mater. Paint lasts forever if it’s looked after. I just finished restoring 2 vintage dodges and it took over a week on each car to rub it back to get the paint like that. Great idea fine lining the high points.

*Luxury cars do not hold their value.* Luxury buyers want the latest and greatest tech and gadgets. This is the reason their value plummets and 85% of luxury cars you see on the road are leased -- specially German brands. This is also why you can by a 7 year old $100K S Class for 20-25% of it's value while a same year same mileage Honda Accord only dropped 50% of it's value while retaining it. As years go by from there, the Honda will hit residual value while the luxury cars continues to drop. Fact.

Now that's what I call lateral and longitudinal thinking. Masking off all the swedge lines, for example, to prevent sanding through the edges is a very simple but highly effective method. The design and quality of the DAs and machine polishers enable the kind of precision aimed at and achieved in this tutorial. Having the right tools and equipment combined with a fine eye for detail and plenty of patience are key elements in achieving a flawless finish. I wonder whether the secret stage involves baking the car at a certain temperature after a certain (ceramic?) coating has been applied and removed to create a protective barrier and lasting finish.

The home we are going to have to leave behind for our kids one day. Lets face it, death comes to us all and do you want to die and leave our earth in a shit state for future generations to live? Look after our earth and everything on it. Without nature the earth wont live and neither will humans. And remember... your human too.

Man that’s gotta feel so good tearing into a 100+ thousand dollar car paint job. Back when I first started in racing I was in control of 2 prototype AudiR8s before the road car came out, easily 2 million dollars trusted in my hands to grind on and repair carbon fiber then paint. Just felt so good and scary knowing that people entrust you with the responsibility then believing enough in myself to not completely screw it up trying to pretend like it was nothing more than a practice hood from the junkyard and best yet is when you pull it off and the owner (rest in peace you’re one of the greatest men I ever had the honor to know ) comes in and says great job with a smile, looking back it’s still humbling. I scored that job right out of tech school which is why I was so scared and doubted my abilities but pushed on. Anyway killer job brother looks amazing, so much depth to the color and clean, absolutely beautiful!!!

If doing ppf does removing orange peel change the result once the ppf is layed?

  • @TopazDetailing

PPF adds a very slight amount of orange peel, however, much less than the amount that has been removed in this process

@@puhipuhi8696 orange peel is the term used for texture in the finish of the paint. It's called orange peel because the texture looks similar to the texture of an orange peel

I use to be the cosmetic guy for a classic car restoration shop and I would do jobs like this on crazy cars. The job would have to be flawless because these cars would go to auctions like Barrett Jackson and prestige car shows. I really enjoyed doing it. It's to bad the owners couldn't keep things going.

Ridiculous, love it! I thought orange peel was in the base coat and not the orange peel, guess I was wrong although I suppose either layer could have it.

Kennedy Catala it’s how paint depth is measured, essentially I’m asking how much lacquer was removed from the car by the sanding and polishing stages in this example

I'm asking the same question. How many microns before he started. Then how many when he was finished? If he went to deep. This car may look great now. But with almost no clear coat left. What will it look like in a year?

Now his buffing procedure is kinda wierd though.. Too many steps working backwards and stuff...aint nothing secret to what he just did lol
